At the moment i only use dreamweaver to make websites and someone told me about joomla content management system and i really dont know how it works. I downloaded it thinking there would be an application in it but i was told by a friend that you must have apache server to make it work.

Can someone explain to me from scratch how i get joomla to work and is the Apache http server that i have to download? once i download the apache server , what do i do then. As i said i only use dreamweaver so i dont know too much after that.

Unless you are hosting it on your own machine, you won't need Apache.

After that, yay for official documentation!

oh no! this is a dangerous thread. Read the documentation for Joomla before posting up something so vague as to "how does this work"...there is a ton of documentation available. Do your own searching.

But you will need Apache / MYsql / PHP. Use a precompiled package such as Firepages or IBserver instead of downloading each component individually. To install Joomla you need to navigate within your browser to localhost/joomla/install/index.php or something along those lines.

    Read the Documentation.

Tbh if CMS is new to you, go for mambo, it comes from the same crowd but Joomla is more heavy, more features etc.

Joomla has more features than Mambo, Joomla is the future of Mambo.

    Yeah, I think I said that. :)
I use joomla on one of my sites, so I do prefer it over mambo.
