Hey, ive a mate whos sure he wants a tattoo on the sole of his foot ... OUCH wouldnt be me ... but all tattoo artists are saying its going to fade BAD! ... im getting EMLA which has lidocaine in it as a predeadner and then using dermalsource zone 2 as a deadner after outlining and after its done ... so were sorted pain wise ...

but he just wants to know if anyone has this done already or any tattoo artists have any tips like would using any type of different needle or ink make a difference or is it just doomed from the start. He doesnt care that it will fades like he still will get it but would like it to last as long as possible or fade as little as possible.

    Any tips or hints?

There area's are well known to smudge and just turn into black(or whatever color) smudges after time.

Wouldn't be too clever getting one

The best results i've seen on sole of feet tattoos were handpoked ones but they still looked fairly aged by the end of a year. Two things, one this is gonna hurt like a bastard and be hard to heal and two it'll take 3-4 sessions to get the colour even.

There just going to be black and not too thick or anything just like say a shape like a square and a cross and stuff like that ... too hard to explain what it is but he is adminent that he wants them and nothing is going to change his mind :) so the artist said they would take about 2-4 hours depending on the pain etc but since there small would only need one session

after a year tho will they stop smudging or whats the craic? will they completely disapear or could you get them redone every year?

Ill be there laughing my bollox off cause we both know this is going to be the most painful thing ever and the natural reaction to pain in that area is muscles to retract so im going to have to sit on his leg :)

If anyone has mates who are tattoo artists can you ask them all for ANY advice at all for this

Yeah most would advise not to do it as it'll look sh1t in a year and worse in two etc. It'll defintely take 2-3 sessions to get the colour in good and strong. The first session could lose up to 70% of the ink what goes in.

    Who's gonna do it?

the fact is that the flesh on the sole of the foot is in use so much that it renews itself very often, this adds to the normal degradation of a tattoo, and wipes it out and smudges it and basically turns it to mush in about a year or so, your friend is convinced and has convinced an artist then let him go for it.

<edit> that shit is gonna hurt

<edit1>fairly much doomed from the start

Not sure the fella whos doing it, hes got a few off him before and knows him ... but the tattoo artist is telling him its doomed from the start and not to do it and that its going to be worse then child birth :) But he just HAS to get them done :) so he's looking for the best way ... somebody was telling me that the main smudging will happen when you walk on it while its healing and it will break the skin and keep coming out but if you were in a wheel chair for 2-3 weeks then it would heal up and there would be LESS smudging but still you would have to get it done 2-3 times.

does this sound like a possible answer for less smudging or would the wheelchair/crutches not be worth the amount its going to stop?

If he got his foot dermabraded first then, tattooed and stayed in a wheelchair for the rest of his life it'll last, otherwise its fuct from the start.

Haha or amputation :) So theres absolutly no way to lessen the smudge, its inevitable that its going to smudge but was just looking for any way to lessen it but think its a lost cause. Agh well maybe he could get it done in a skin toney/white colour so when it smudges it doesnt look like he just stood on a massive fly

Just dont do it, everyone has told you it's stupid :)

The skin tone white just won't show up and would take so many session to get even if at all.

Tell him to get it on the top of his foot, I got mine done there about 2 weeks ago and it's fine.

@Emmet, why on earth are you promoting people to stop pulling their wire? :p

Ag Marbh , it isnt a "do you guys think its a good idea" thread :) he has his reasons and has his mind made up, nothing will change it, he knows its going to **** up, he knows its going to be so soar but still for his reasons he is going to have it done, I was just checking is there anything that can lessen the smudging or any tips at all. But it looks like theres no tips what so ever so just means he is going to just have to do it the normal way :)

But thanks for everyones input and if anyone is talking to an artist and they explain that its going to be done no matter what, but ask them if they have any tips that would be great!

So from now on no more ... Dont get it done cause its set in stone at this stage that its going to be done haha i agree with you all that he shouldnt get it done and even said about the top of the foot but nope has to be the bottom :)

is it so no one will see it or something?
I don't get it, if someone knows that its going to be a waste of pain/energy/money/time and it's going to end up looking disastorous why would you still do it.
Sounds more then a bit stupid to me.
    But, meh, whatever.

ehhh well basically its along the same lines as why do mowery people get there tattoos :) Painful mother ****ers to get done and take days but they still get it done ... so cant really say why but thats close its along them lines ... so it would be like saying to a mowery ... DONT get that big tattoo done! There going to get it anyway and going to get it done that way and that design and that area etc etc

Like i really just cant say so dont slate the answer cause hey it was all i could come up with :)

Do you read what i said? Get it dermabraded first then get it tattooed and the ink will get in better.

u also followed it up with staying in a wheel chair for life hahaha and i have no idea what dermabraded is so i just thought the whole message was a joke :) so sorry thanks for the advice cause anything at all will be a big help ... what is dermabraded?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,057 ✭✭✭amazingemmet

the basics of it are you get a dental drill and a s dermabrde attachment and you use it to remove the top layers of skin. hurts like a bastard

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 253 ✭✭PTL

Ouch! cant wait to tell him the good news haha think he would have to get knocked out to get dermabraded and a tattoo on the sole of his foot ... wonder would that be possible :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,057 ✭✭✭amazingemmet

You'll need a plastic/ burn surgeon to do the dermabrading and that can be done under local.

i was looking into the possibility of getting a pirate treasure map tattooed on the soul of my foot, and then i decided against it for the reasons i found. it's probably what everyone else has said but i chose not to get it because of these reasons:

your feet are used every single day no matter what. unless you stay in bed of course but nearly every day you wear socks, and shoes.
the colour sweats out, and wears away by general use of your feet.
the skin is really tough and gets sweaty. the ink may smudge in the early stages, leaving a hideous blotch. when and if your friend does get it done, it is recommended to avoid sports socks , and wear sandals for the duration of the healing time and to try and keep off your feet as much as possible. i'd even recommend crutches, while its healing just so you done chance ****ing it up. i would be interested to see on how it turns out and a monthly picture of it would be sweet.

    best of luck anyway
