I've just started with a new company and they gave me a nice laptop which for the last few days I was using on their network. I am now at home and using it on my wireless network for surfing etc. I wanted to set up up on my network/Workgroup (name: MYNETWORK) for file and printer sharing. So I used the Network setup Wizard to do this, it said it was successful but needed to restart, so I did this, but when I got to the Windows (XP Pro) login screen, it will not let me log in at all!

The details that I had been using were:
    jblogs (example)
    Password1

    but these will not work

I know that my computers name is Dublaptop001 but after that I am stumped.

Has anyone come accross this before? Is there any way to Hack the password?

Please help! I really don't want to look like a muppet to my new bosses!
    Thanks

    http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/

Used this umpteen times without a problem.

Also, moving the laptop to a workgoup means you will have to move the laptop to a domain again when you get into the office meaning you will need to know the password of an account that can do this....
You shouldnt have needed to put the laptop into your workgroup for access to your WLAN.....
I would be very wary about doing anything you have already done with a company laptop and breaking the local password may not be the most intelligent thing you do this week either....
You are going to get found out either way.

the username and password that you have.....is it a domain logon or a local logon? their a dropdown on the login menu, try it both ways, machine name and then domain. its a start anyways!

other than that "ERD Commander" might be helpful! never used but hear it can be handy.

Cheers for the help Lads. It was on a a domain called "MDL" but when I opened it at home I still logged in as normal, but I am not sure if the login was there or not, but it is not there any more.

So by putting it on to my work group why did this happen? I've done it before with other laptops (XP HOME) with no problems.

Kippy if i use that app what will it do, just resent the password?

The above program will delete any password you select on the hd, use it to boot the laptop. You will not be able to rejoin the domain unless you know an account and password in work who has this ability. Just fess up and be done with it, happens more than you want to know.

Yeah I'll have to tell them, I just would perfer to have it fixed first.

Its very rare I'll be back in the office (Its in NI) hoever they are setting up a VPN so I might need it for that.

What I cannot understand is Why I got locked out or why the password changed... Can someone explain this to me?

Well that was fun! Called my new bosses and told them what happened, They were not too impressed. I logged in using Administrator and a blank password which gets you in on a fresh profile. We tried to rejoin the domain but it would not work, somehting to do with some the way my router and wireless is set up. It wasn't looking good so I took a break.

It then dawned on me to try a system restore.... Worked like a charm. Changed the setting back to the original domain and and i was able to log back in as normal.

I was delighed to be able to tell them I fixed it myself, using the most simple of resolutions, somehtng the super techies didn't think of... he he he..

Now what I would love to know is can I set up file and printer sharing with my main PC? Or do you think I would just be tempting fate and asking for more problems?
