Completely at a loss

Ok, I have been wracking my brain over what could be causing this problem, but I am completely at a loss as to the reason for this problem, as well as it's resolution.

About two months ago, I came home to find my computer screen dark, computer still on, but unresponsive to mouse or keyboard movements.

Figuring it had simply been on too long and crashed, I rebooted the machine and waited for the login screen to pop up. I highlighted the password field with my mouse, went to type in the password and... nothing happened.

I hit every key on te keyboard, nothing came up. Weird, I thought, better reboot again. Same thing. Removed the mouse and keyboard (PS/2 and USB respectively), but to no avail.

So, I tried a PS/2 keyboard I had lying around. Nothing.

Somewhat irritated, I decided to boot into savety mode, but, not happening. I can configure as much of the BIOS as I want through the keyboard, but as soon as it goes to boot, I lose keyboard functionality.

Worried now, I reset the BIOS and try again. Still nothing. I decide to boot my windows CD to reinstall, can't access the menu. Incredibly confused I try to boot up an Ubuntu live CD, thinking that Windows is corrupt, but no, Ubuntu doesn't work either.

I am currently typing, as I have been for the last two months, on the same keyboard that didn't work in my other machine, but works without any problems on my backup computer.

I have absolutely no idea what the problem is. The computer and keyboard worked fine together up until that day I found the computer silent, and every keyboard I have used since displays the same problem, be it USB or PS/2.

What the hell is going on?

Mobo is no longer under warranty unfortunately, it's just such a weird problem, it works until boot time...

Is there some sort of increase in voltage after a motherboard boots anything beyond the BIOS?
