    Has any one added solar panels to theiraparments to heat the hot water to save on electricity?

    Just got a phone call froma contractor looking to do this (he was more worried about planning compliance) but had never really heard of it before.

    Are the practical to use? Expesive?

    There's been a couple of threads on solar panels in the last few weeks. Have a quick search.

    Planning permission is definitely an issue. The planners obviously don't want these things sprouting up all over the place with no control.

    I also don't think it's that easy to add a panel water heating system to an existing house / apartment -- the plumbing is tricky. It's much easier to do it at the house build stage
