If you happen to live in either Drogheda or Swords, they're throwing in a free iPod shuffle when you sign up for Sky at the kiosks in either Scotch Hall or The Pavillions.

Tis on their site so it is - www.skyireland.ie

there's an odd error when you attempt to Submit that form, relating to it not going to/coming from the correct location ?????

skyireland.ie has nothing to do with Sky themselves. See the whois report for the domain ...

Some of the links redirect you to a site www.skyinstallers.ie which is also registered to, guess who ... Noel Moroney.

I'd wager Sky themselves wouldn't be too pleased to know that they were trying to pass themselves off as Sky in this way.

skyireland.ie says "official authorised retailer", so they're official and legit to that degree. Basically Sky have given them the go ahead to sell their stuff and be an official rep in ireland.

I actually know these guys as I met them once when I did some work for a company in a similar "official retailer" position last year. (I actually signed up for sky with em recently and got me an ipod, hence the original post)

It's possible to be linked up with sky and classified as "an official retailer". You get access to things that unautorised sellers don't, like posters, special offers and stuff.

skyinstallers.ie is probably an old site or something

Mystery solved - now onto the davinci code!

That may well be, but that isn't the first (misleading) impression given by their site unless you read the smallish print at the top. To all intents and purposes a naive visitor might think they were on Sky's own site. Even the layout of the home page is strikingly similar, except for the colour, plus there's no links to Sky's official Ireland pages anywhere to be seen or any real contact information apart from an 1890 number. To me it looks like they're deliberately trying to pull the wool over peoples' eyes.

Customers will soon notice the difference when they actually get their installations and stuff done without the usual "SKY" hassle!

I've had so much strife dealing with Sky's lot in scotland that I'd go for a local guy anyday. I've adopted the same policy when it comes to PCs and other electrical goods too. Smaller companies need your custom more so they look after you better.
