    Hi all!
I like classic cars very much and I'd like to get one here. I used to drive some in Poland. I had 1981 Ford Granada, 1979 BMW 320 e21, and one strange Skoda 105L from Chech Republic :)

My question is if 20 years old car is a classic already? Or 30 years old? When is car eligible for classic tax and insurance?

    Thanks for any answer

Classic tax is 30 years, I'm not sure about insurance. You could have a look at the AXA website - they do classic insurance:

Another question. If I buy a car which is not 30 years old yet, can I register it later? Is there any limit after buying? For example, if I buy something interesting, can I wait 2 years to register it here? Thanks

The classic car tax applies to all cars over 30 years old.

Most insurance companies will accept classic insurance on cars over 20 years old provided it is not your main car. You must have normal insurance on another car as well.
If its a sporty car such as a Golf GTi etc - some will not quote for these cars at all - classic or otherwise.

The legal requirement is that all cars must be registered as soon as they are imported - there is no provision for waiting to register them.

Hi Qazz. As others have mentioned, 30 years is the cut off tax-wise. That means on a car over 30 years old, you'll pay €42 per year in tax and €50 VRT import duty. Insurance-wise, some companies offer classic insurance on cars over 20, others over 25. If the car is your only car, like mine, you can get a limited mileage policy with with quite a high limit - mine is 10,000 miles per year, with fully comprehensive insurance and an agreed value of €15000. My insurance costs €600, so not much cheaper than "normal" insurance.

Some Polish friends of mine say that the car enthusiast scene in Poland is huge and that it is a good place to pick up classics - particularly classic German and Czech cars. Is that your experience? A tatra would be cool - did you see many when you were there?

There is a lot of classic cars. For really good example (Mercedes, Mustang, Corvette) you have to pay, I think the same price as here. But there is plenty of 80's cars. You can get them from 500 euro, but they need some restoration of course.

I have never seen Tatra on the road. Only Tatra I have seen in Poland is a big lorry and... name of beer :) But I found this website: http://www.team.net/www/ktud/Tatra.html

You can check what is in Poland here: http://moto.allegro.pl/showcat.php?id=594
but the prices are in polish currency

Hi. Another question :) If a car is from 1975 but it has an engine changed (from 1989) is it still ok to import and register it here? Thanks again.

Changing the engine isn't a problem, the date is taken from first registration, my car is an imported 1957 beetle with a new 1835cc engine.

Looks to me like Alfasudcrazy's Peugeot 504 is still on British plates. Ho - Hum.

    I don't think so - I've seen a pic with 75 KE, I think.
