I bought my Girlfriend a laptop from Dell 1300 and then a pc card wifi, I couldnt get it work, So i stuck the card in my sister inlaws Dell 2300 ( i think ) and it picked it up staight away.

So what im wondering is there a way to disable this card slot ? and thats why its not picking it up.

    Thanks

The slot in the 1300 is not a PC card slot, it is a PC Express slot, as I found out only after I purchased the damn thing.

So it won't take the standard PC cards, you have to get a PC Express card. And, according to the PC Express people's website, there are no Wifi cards on the market in the PC Express form factor.

So your only option is to get either a mini-PCI card (which goes inside the laptop) or a USB Wifi dongle.

Just had a look at http://www.expresscard.org/web/site/
and to the casual user it looks like a pcmcia card is in the laptop

    13. Is ExpressCard technology compatible with PC Card technology?
No, the PC Card interface uses either an ISA-based 16-bit or PCI-based 32-bit parallel interface through a 68 contact pin-and-socket connector. The ExpressCard interface uses high-speed PCI Express or USB 2.0 serial interfaces through a 26 contact high-performance beam-on-blade connector. These technologies are not compatible with each other and moving forward to the high performance, compatibility and cost savings of these modern interfaces required sacrificing compatibility with the older PC Card Standard. In the future, we may see adapters that allow the use of older PC Card products on systems without a PC Card slot through both the ExpressCard and USB interfaces.
