the bigger the fan you get the slower it spins and the less noise it will make(usually) I would have thought that trying artic collings GPU cooler would be the way to go.

Is your fatality still running at 100% ?

    Because that would be loud.........

Did it come with a fanmate controller thingy? (small box with a pot on it)

Sounds like you didn't know what you wanted when you bought it. Could go back to the stock cooler if its quieter? Or as said, change to an arctic cooler. I'd worry about making the fan slower on a gfx card as they are temp controlled, and if meddled with, may result in a melted card.

Yeh, most after market GFX coolers plug into the card and can be controlled with software like the stock HSF......

But some of the Zalman ones have a little "fanmate" controller that adjusts voltage from 5v to 12v:rolleyes:

The software controlled coolers are better as you can let the card set a 2d and 3d speed.....

If you think the front fan is too loud then it is too loud!

Replace the fans with more quite versions.

i.e Akasa 120mm Ultra quiet fans (a friend used em, said they were dacent)
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=312504

You could also buy a zalamn heatpipe harddrive cooler
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=300271
(my friend use this to cool his western dig raptor and found it cut the noise down for it)

Just get good brand 120mm fans that have a low dba value, 20dba or lower.

Or you could just get some of those zalman fan mates and use them to slow down the fans you already have in your system.

As regards the hard drives get the zalman heatpipe cooler for your raptor at the very least.(as linked in the last post)

its a passive cooler so it won't add any extra noise and will reduce the nosie your raptor will make as it keeps it cooler.
(the warmer the hardrive gets to more noise it can make.....)

My friend noticed a huge reduction in noise from his raptor from using it and said it was well worth the money he spent.

You have too much ventilation in the stacker to bother trying to fit noise damping foam.

The best you can do as regards the harddrives is to fit the zalman heatpipe coolers and use the anti vibration pads that come with it to cut down virbration.

You really picked the wrong case if you wanted silence.

But as with all things you just have to learn the hard way and learn to do better resesrch the next time.

This may be controversial but anyway:

I had two PCs in work that were very noisey. So, I took off the side panel, and drilled 2x4" holes in each (file them to remove sharp edges). Then I got a reasonably fine mesh and stuck it over the holes, on the inner side of the panel.

Job done. The extra air keeps the machines cool, and the fan speed reduced down to a very acceptable noise level.

Sounds like a butcher job, but if done neatly, it is a good & cheap solution.

CM Stacker has plenty of space and good airflow, I don't know how many fans you got in it but you might be going for an overkill.

Switching your fans to 7v or 5v instead of 12v will greatly reduce the noise, and you can easily do this yourself, or get an adapter.

A better, and more expensive solution, would be something like the mCubed t-balancer. A sophisticated controller/monitor that works with most of the popular software (motherboard monitor, speedfan etc):
    http://www.mcubed-tech.com/english/produkte.htm

You can have what you want (slow speeds in 2D, going up as the temperature rises) plus more... Most of them are expandable, so you can add on flow monitors for water cooling, extra headers etc.

As for hard drives, I really doubt you can hear them if you can notice fan noise. Hard drives usually become audible when you've silenced pretty much every other part of the system.
There are numerous solutions on the market that will dampen the noise of the drives, some of them come with foam packs etc but they tend to overheat.
Personally, I went with the Innovatek vibes, it's the same thing as the Sharkoon ones you can get in Peats. Simple design, works great.

And if you're not happy with the case's sound absorption you can always add sound dampening mats or a similar solution. It's a huge case, so I'd expect you'd need more than one set. I went for an alternate solution with my old Aopen HX08 (a little bit smaller than the Stacker). I lined the inside of the case with bituminus mastic, one tin was all that was required. It takes a good while to dry and settle down, but the end result is much better in my opinion. It's a rubbery compound, rather than a foam.

There you go, hope that helps!

The front fan on the harddrive cage is not loud, it barely even moves air.I replaced it with a aska 120mil amber simply becasue it wasnt cooling my raptors enough.

ok found out that the loud fan is the i think 90mm fan on the top of the case.

and also what about these http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=311513

If you look at the harddrive cage in your stacker you will see rubber mounts on it that do the same thing.

IF the fan is whats bothering you at the moment then forget about HDD vibration for now. IF the HDD vibration was the problem it would be easily disscernable from a fan.
