Looks like Terry Venables is about to sign for Boro, he did a decent job as fireman when Robson nearly took them down a few years back. Boro are cooling the speculation but it would make some sense I guess.

    Mike.

Not El Tels fan at all. Did a simply awful job at Leeds and cost us millions.

Dont think any manager could be blamed for Leeds, El Tel was thrown in at the deep end when everything was falling around the place. Did the best he could with what was going on in the board/press/dressing room.

he wasnt given enough time at leeds and there was huge pressure there at the time, i dont think anyone could have saved leeds then.

i thought he would have been the best man for the newcastle job, another bobby robson of sorts, wouldnt have won the league or anything but he would have got them into good shape i reckon

did anyone see " all in the game"? There was a distinct similarity between the manager in it and el tel.

I dont think so. His signings were pretty awful and tbh Leeds did still have a decent enough side when he was there bar the defence which he should have been able to sort out. He came in, did a pretty poor job, and left a happy man with pockets full of money. He is not remembered fondly around Elland Road I can tell you.

    WTF is steve gibson thinking?

Middlesboro for relegation next season then.

Hopefully Boro will be on soon so we can get a fans opinion.

Did he actually sign anyone? remember he sold Keane. Wasnt there for much after that, you have to remember when he was manager it all started to break about the club having no money and how much dept they where in, this caused all the problems in dressing room with the like of Viduka/Kewell complaining they wouldnt get paided(oh yeah they loved the club:D ) etc.

Yeah he signed a few and got in plenty of loan signings, no one worked out though. Maybe im being a bit harsh because he is a money grabber but I just dont rate him as a manager anymore, think he is past it.

If I remember, even the loan signings that season lost heart in the club. Sakho (sp?) had a good start to his loan move, but it all went pear shaped around christmas (when they sold even more players).

I wouldn't blame Venables for what happened to Leeds, they could have had Ferguson/Mourinho/Rijkaard/Benitez and still gone down, they were on the road to self destruction with that massive debt, and massive wages.
