yes. If your pc only has USB1.1 connections on it, and you want to connect a USB2.0 device to it, it will work but at the much slower 1.1 speeds.

No some products require USB2 and will not work with USB1 or 1.1 .My frind just got a creative ZEN and it wont work with his pc because his pc does not have USB 2. Thats what the cerative guy said anyway.

i was going to get the creative zen nano plus which is usb 2.0, i assumed it could be used on a one year old dell pc but how do i know if my pc has usb2.0 or not?

I would say if the PC is 1 year old it almost definatly has USB 2.

Read the manual that came along with your pc, but if its a year old or so its mostly likely usb 2

wow thats news to me. It doesn't work at all? Especially something like zen which is pretty much a harddrive.

Is it a power issue then, i.e. it can't charge/power it.

Never had a problem using portable harddrives or mp3 players on usb1.1 by the way.

USB 2.0 Interface cards are cheap enough to buy... about €15 or so... It would be worth your while upgrading.

USB 1.0 runs at about 11mb/s minus overheads on a good day
USB 2.0 runs at a little over 400mb/s minus overheads.

Sounds like you do have 2.0 but if not it should work....but file transfer will be very slow.
    Otherwise your fine.

Contrary to what they make you think, "USB 2.0" does not necessarily mean 480Mbit/s - that's USB2.0 "Hi-Speed". A "USB 2.0" product may only still run at 1.5Mbit/s or 12Mbit/s.

And I've never seen a USB 2.0 product that won't work (albeit slowly) on a USB 1.1 port - AFAIK the standard states they're supposed to be backwards compatible.
