Looking for work (paid or not!!)

I'm Olaide and I am from Nigeria. I've been living in Ireland for the past four years and last year I got my documents to stay and work in the state. I have a wife and three children here and I need a job for me to cater for them.

I finished the Office Procedure (IC3) course (safety at work, office duties etc.) and a basic computer course (Fetac Level 3; Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc) in Ringsend Technical School. Also I got an Irish forklift license and a category B license here.

I've been looking for a job for eight months now without success. I've sent almost 60 CVs. The places that I went to they say they will keep my CV, they will get back to me, but since then I haven't got a reply. The biggest problem I am facing is that I haven't worked in Ireland before.

So, if I can find any voluntary work, that would help me to find a good job in the future. So, if I can help you by doing some work for you, please come forward.

    Thanks.

Hi olaide. Where have you been applying for work and sending CVs...what kind of jobs?

I would imagine a forklift licence would be very useful but i wouldn't have much of an idea of how much in demand that is...Have you tried going into factorys and large storage facilities in person and/or writing in to them with a CV and a copy of your work permit and forklift licence? Perhaps you could find some usefull outcomes from that.

Also, you have basic administration skills, so if you look in the jobs pull out in the Irish independant newspaper (twice a week, not sure of the days) there are a large amount of administration jobs in those and alot of agencies looking for people with those skills also to source for jobs. (I would suggest sending your details into any job agency you can find)

You also have a driving licence, try calling delivery business's (such as resteraunt/fast food delivery or whatever) and asking if they need drivers...send CVs into all these companies head offices stating your work permit and areas where you can work and make sure (if you are) to include you are very flexible time wise etc.

Good Luck :) Stick at it and you will find something sooner or later....you shouldn't have any problem finding voluntary work, contact any charity and they will help you, but I would suggest with a familly you should concentrate on a good job to provide longer and don't give up...trust me, sooner or later you will find something.

Would you consider any condtruction work? Bricklaying for example is very well paid, or you could try shops, supermarkets if you still can't find a job with your relevant qualifications.

Have a look at the Fas website. www.fas.ie it's updated every day and there are always companies looking for people with a full licence or a forklift licence or admin. skills. a lot of them don't need experience either

When applying for a job, state that you have the papers to work here, as most employers will assume that you don't have the papers, hence they'll have to give you a work visa... which is too much effort. So, say in your covering letter that you have the documents allowing you to work here.

Then goto fas.ie There's at least 2 jobs on any given day that I've looked there, asking for someone with a forklift license to work for them.
