    Hey Folks,
What would be the best solution?
I have a Medion MD 8800 with DVB-T,DVB-S & Analogue connections to my TV tuner, with my Sony 32" LCD TV acting as the sole dedicated monitor connected using a DVI to HDMI cable.
My Basic NTL analogue when connected to my TV tuner card is poor quality as to when I connect it directly into the back of my TV. Any ideas why? do i just have to live with it?
In the latter case above i plan to use either the DVB-T or DVB-S & would appreciate any comments as i heard a digital signal into a TV tuner is alot better than the analogue one
Wait for DTT(Digital Terrastrial Tv) in Ireland & put up an aerial to receive these Digital channels?
Subscribe to Sky now & get a CAM & CI slot for my PC & use my PVR with Sky Digital? Is this a difficult/possible setup on a PC?, are CAM & CI slots expensive?, from what i have read so far i need these to decrypt the Pay channels Sky Sports etc with my Sky smart card, but the other should be fine?
PS i am not talking about anything illegal here!!!)

One more last thing I have finished my Sky subscription a long time ago but I still have the satellite receiver outside my house but i have no set top box, is this any use to me using the DVB-S connection on my PC (sorry if this is a silly question!!!) in order to get FTA (Free To Air) digital channels?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks
    Rob

Basic NTL analogue and Chorus analog is terrible quality and always has been.

You will get lots of FTA digital on PC PCI card DVB-s, including all BBC TV and Radio and all ITV. About 45 decent TV and 30 decent radio out of 200+ TV and 70+ radio FTA.

You really need a Sky box for Sky pay channels. Anything else is a lot of bother and not always going to work. If you subscribe (needed anyway for card to work) you will likely be offered a Sky box free or very cheap.

A TV aerial fro the four Irish cannels is hugely better than NTL analogue.

DTT will not be any time soon on a TV aerial

The CI/CAM route will only work if your DVB-S card has either a CI slot already or has the option of adding a CI board. It is pretty straightforward if it does, but it expensive enough (~€100 for the CAM) and it won't update the card.

A smartmouse is a cheaper alternative (tenner on ebay) to the CI/CAM but your software package needs to be able to support a software-based cam. Requires a bit of fiddling to get right also. It will update the card.

Both of these come with the usual, obligatory, health warning that they are unofficial and can stop working in a day or a year.

Best to get a digibox, either new or secondhand, as a backup. This also allows for a 3rd route of capturing the output from the digibox and controlling it with this:
