    Hi,

Trying to order a Creative Zen Nano Plus Minus Ultra Delta Zeta yada yada 1GB mp3 player from Amazon.co.uk and was told off for living in the republic: They politely said "thanks but no thanks for your custom".

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000A3P3WM/ref=br_lf_ce_4/203-8175060-6174317

Its a good price and most other online shop that sells this item (from kelkoo, froogle listings) either at least 25% dearer (komplett etc), or have exorbitant delivery charges (aria.co.uk - £27 to deliver a 34 gm mp3 player!!).

Anyone know a good place where I can order this?

    Thanks a million!! :)

ShopIreland is an Amazon Associate. And you didn't click any further than that first page either, since it's listed as not in stock. Well done. And why do you bother?

If anyone would like to complain about this idiocy by Amazon, you can find contact details in this post on Michele's blog.

    €105 + delivery on pixmania

I too am well pissed off at amazon (judging by that blog I'm not the only one), especially when you read the list of countries they WILL post to...I doubt it's WEEE charges as the UK has to start implementing that at some stage this year themselves...

I think it far more likely that suppliers to the Irish market have instructed parent manafacturing companies to ask amazon to quit pulling the pricing rug from under their feet, and amazon have just initiated a blanket ban on all items...I did consider for a while that it might be some sort of dispute with An Post or other Irish delivery agent and possibly a large % of missing orders, but the former seems more and more likely the more I think about it...

Yeah, as Ken said, shopireland.ie is just another stylesheet/color change job for the amazon shop, and they don't deliver to here either (I wonder what their new business model is going to be, charge wee on top of the Amazon prices?). Thanks anyway, ClonmelMan.

This is supposed to be a birthday present for someone, and birthday is already come and gone! I need to get one asap!!

Has anyone tried one of those no-name mp3 players on ebay? Like this one for instance: 2gb mp4 player

    thanks!

Thanks mcgovern! Glad to know they are real, not just a photoshop'd image!! :) So, would you recommend one of them at that price, or is it not worth the hassle?

PS: Also, hows the radio on them?

Thanks for the suggestion, Superfly, but thats €142 euros compared to the €95 at Amazon! eBay has a few deal going cheaper than that, but still way overpriced.

I am really thinking about one of the no-name mp3/mp4 players from eBay now - less than €100 for 4GB ipod-nano-lookalikes!

meself and Ken are setting up a shipping aggregation site for amazon electronics > Ireland , of course we WILL charge handsomely :D

this is totally unsubstantiated but rumour has it that they were having 15-20% of packages go 'missing' when going through the delivery system in Ireland..

it's a pity I have bought loads of stuff off them with no trouble, but do know of 2 or 3 people whose package never made it and amazon sent it out again (or so they said). If this was constantly happening it would make sense to pull the service until they can find a reliable delivery method that is still cheap..

did they not use UPS ??

Pretty sure they do for most electronics items.

I tried to buy a digi camera a week or two ago. I complained. This is the reply I got:

"I regret to say that we will not be able to deliver to Ireland for Electronics & Photo and Home & Garden items due to the new regulations placed on our website just a week ago. This new regulation states that we are not able to process new or replacement orders for most electronic goods to be dispatched to the Republic of Ireland for reasons that we are not able to safeguard their delivery."

I got one from komplett.ie for just a few yoyo more.

Ah...says a lot for our national postal services really doesn't it? Most stuff (electronics) I ordered off them came by An Post, some other (larger) items came by unbranded courier (read; guy in a white van), in either case I recall signing for delivery only once(!)...but anything I ever order to my mate's house up North comes by Securicor (and it's free) and even the smallest items required a signature.

I always thought the usage of big brown cardboard boxes with Amazon.co.uk emblazoned on the sides were a beacon for lightfingered deliverymen and amazon's unquestioning replacement policy was open to abuse.

I appreciate you mentioned that its a present - but you could try the creative shop on ebay where they sell the refurbished equipment. They have a 1GB Zen Nano for ~ €80, 1GB n200 for <€60. I mean present or not if someone wanted to buy me a 20gb Zen at €120 I wouldn't be complainin' :)

Thanks dazberry, creative seems to have updated their ebay store recently. I lost on a nice Zen Sleek Photo (I was not at my desk! damn), but I might end up buying a Nano - thanks again!

Amazon refusal to deliver electrical goods to Ireland is only a temporary measure until they sort out our WEEE tax. (As per Monday Irish Times)

Have you got a link for that article or even the title of it?

What do they eed to sort out? It's fairly simple. Charge €10 for tvs etc, etc. Anyway it's not OUR WEE tax , it's europes WEE tax and it's going to be europe wide soon so they'll have to do it for every country. Are they going to temporarily cease business altogether when the other countries come online?

Was'nt attackign you, more amazons policy and reason therefore.

I think the main issue they would have with WEEE is that they would be obliged to accept old electrical items back from buyers and dispose of them in an environmentally friendly manner.
