Girls Holiday in the sun

Just wondering if people have any suggestions on a cheap and cheerful package holiday for single girls (age 28ish!) for a week at the end of July.

Having never been on a package holiday before we have been thinking maybe Crete or Lanzarote (maybe too coupley?) etc? Should we just wait and go on a last minute deal?

We just want to have the craic, meet some people (hopefully guys!) and chill out! One thing we want to avoid is Leaving Cert students (no offence!) :p

    Any advice would be welcome...thanks!

Funny, we're looking for a similar gig, but possiably later in the summer.
I was in Grand Canaria before, I wouldn't recommend it, and I'd imagine most of the Canaries are the same.
We're thinking more Greece direction, or some Med island. We're the same age, I'd be happy to pool resourses in this thread.

Crete was great when we were there back in 2000. We stayed in Stalis (small quiet town, lovely beach, restaurants, etc) but on either side of us was Hersonisis (spelling) and Malia where it was wild! Malia was full of Brits and Hersonisis was all the other nationalities!

Well I'm the same age and went last year with one of my girlie mates to Lanzarote. To say it was a laugh is an understatement. Does everything it says on the tin. Spent most days sunbathing and reading with LOTS OF SHOPPING, (check out the Zara there......and the shoooooooooooes ;) ) then home to get ready, bite to eat, drinking and dancing until 6am most mornings and then back out in the sun again by midday. Considering we got so little sleep, were really refreshed when coming back. I reckon it's a good place to go as seemed to be lots of groups of people in their late 20s/early 30s so none of your San Antonio type/virginity losing kids.

Greek islands are great too and a bit more to do than sunbathe and shop if that's what you're looking for.

To be fair, when I went to Grand Canaria, it was in December and it was a couply holiday, so i may be off the mark, but it just didn't strike me as a place to go back to.

Is it Lanzarote that has the black beaches? ...and wheres this San Antonio place so I can avoid it like the plague? Thanks for your input btw.

Sorry MZ - don't mean to be hijacking your thread here! :o

Zulu, San Antonio is in Ibiza. Don't judge the whole island by that though, I've seen travel programs and the rest of the of Ibiza is totally different. It's like going from Temple Bar to Glendalough.

Sorry went off on a tangent a bit there! Let me clarify!!!

Gran Canaria is one of the bigger islands in Canaries. Likewise, went on a coupley holiday there a few years back. Really couply and likewise, wouldn't bother going back there.

Lanzarote has black beaches alright but not ALL black beaches. Beautiful long, white sandy beches in Teguise and Porte del Carmen.

San Antonio is in Ibiza. Ever seen that hideous programme called Ibiza Uncovered? Well it's content is wholly representative of the type of clientele that invade that part of Ibiza every year. Horrid!!!!

Greek Islands Backpacked around Ios, Naxos, Paros and Santorini for a couple of months back in the day. Really cheap, good for nightlife and definitley recommend them if it's a group of mates going there.

Sound! What Ibiza like then? I like to idea of good night life, but whats sold to us on SKY etc. is the last thing I want (it's Sky so I take it with a pinch of salt TBH). I hear it's expensive though?

We're looking for cheap booze, good night life, sun, and craic - you know yourself. ...actually cheap booze isn't that important, we can afford to pay extra, if it's worth it!

I agree with that. To be honest most of Ibiza is Tacksville but that doesn't matter if you're into your tunes and spending most of your hols in clubs. Also, old Ibiza town and Formentera haven't been ruined yet so a lot of it still remains unspoiled.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you mean Malia (hell on earth....)

Oops, yup Malia is where I'm talking about. We went there for a couple of nights out and it was not too bad. Prefered Hersonisis though.

Went there last summer Zulu and it's HIDEOUSLY expensive. No matter how much money you go with you will never have enough. It's shamelessly expensive. Averaging €12-15 for beer or a short & mixer in clubs. Teeny bottles of water €12. Club entrance averaging €40-60. Although you could spend the week on Bora Bora (free beach club) where the DJs start at 2pm right through to 2am. Great way to check out all the hot European tottie and you can buy any alcohol from the local supermarket - lots of people do this and it's fabulous! My brother worked in Ibiza for a month or two after graduation so got free entrance into all the clubs which was a massive advantage. I definitley wouldn't recommend Ibiza if you're on any kind of budget though. I'm a compulsive shopper so always tend to come well prepared for regular splurges lol:p but in Ibiza you never feel you'll have enough cash and EVERYTHING costs.

Thanks for all the info....we were thinking Piskopiano in Crete as it is a little quieter than Hersonossis for the daytime but is near enough for the nightlife!

I would really like to go to Lanzarote but a lot of people are telling me it is more of a relaxing holiday with not many groups of guys (I sound like I am sex mad!) but then as you say Miss Fluff the shopping would be great!

Keep me update Zulu if you hear anymore ideas and I will too!
