Getting into golf properly for the first time and just looking for advice on what golfwear to get and what to look for in it, and also any other accessories I should get that might be genuinely useful.

A decent umbrella, wet gear, hat, and a rain glove.. essential. Apart from that a decent peaked cap too for the sun.. After that it's up to you!

and shoes, get a waterproof pair that you can wear all year round
all leather will just get knackered over here
A nice pair of DryJoys or something will be grand and about €40 - €50
If you carry get as light a bag as possible with the two strap system
If you cart get as big a bag as you can get in your car and get a waterproof cover for it.

i reckoned you were probably thinking of footjoys greenjoys alright

you'll stil pay about 80-90 euro for footjoys aqualites, they're the cheapest water proof footjoys, shoes are such a rip off in golf, you'll pay more for a golf shoe that you were once a week (if lucky) than you would for a good pair of work shoes that you'll wear 5 day a week.
i recently got the Adidas Tour 360's a lovely shoe and at €169 cheaper than most top of the range shoes on offer in the shop(the nike and the dry joys classic spring to mind) but it's still a lot of money. i felt really guilty buying them.

i think the footjoy aqualites are a great golf shoe. i got a pair this time last year and played all the way thru the winter and they are still in great condition. just replaced the softspike there yesterday....

as for golf clothing good raingear is essential in this country if you wanna be comfortable. spend as much as you can afford.

i got lucky and won a set of galvin green rainjacket and trouser. they are super!

be very careful ruggie there are a few that are exactly what you descibed but are as waterproof as a sheet of loo roll, nealry all main good raintops have detachable sleeves.

yeah there seems to be a difference between waterproof and 100% waterproof
let me know if you find a good one that doesnt cost €400!

    lol

I won't have a bad word said against Donnay. I bought their 25 euro driver and it's the only driver i've ever been able to hit consistently straight 280-300 yards.

And i also have a lucky pair of black donnay slacks:D

That's the one Rick, I couldn't remember the name.. I had an Adidas one from before, but for a fiver, i said I couldn't go wrong. I gave one to my old man for the windy days!

what are the donnay slacks like?

must check em out in heatons. i could really do with a few new pairs and couldnt be arsed paying big money for pringle or kartel ones

actually very comfortable and cost 10 euro....really like them

thanks for the info on this lads, will checkout what the gear in heatons is like before splashing out big money.

Saw some windproof gloves the other day - €20 and its two gloves and it said 'super grip' so I imagine you keep them on while taking your shot. Anyone tried these and are they any use? Nothing worse than numb hands for 4 hours

I won a Kartel jumper typed thing in a raffle so that should be handy on dry days but I'll defo look into rain top and bottoms.

yeah i have super grip gloves that actually get more grip the wtter they get. really really good although im not comfortable pitching and putting with gloves on so it can be a bit annoying to be taking off and putting on glovess!!!

wouldnt worry bout it tho... summer is nearly here!!!! thank god!!!

having said that i played most sat morning over the winter even when course was on temp greens because of frost and i rarely wore gloves

I bought a wet glove that's made of a kinda suede material.. and i gotta say its great.. it grips like nothing else.. and is VERY durable.. i found other wet gloves last like 6 months max playing once a week.. I switch gloves if its not dry to a wet glove.. really helps..

Was wondering if anyone knows who stocks these https://www.118golf.co.uk/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=496
    or similar in Dublin

I bought wet gear at ALDI recently for €25 made from teflon.

I'm very happy with it - have walked to work in the bottoms a few times and kept dry.
I haven't been in torrential downpour yet to fully test though.

The brand is crane sports if you want to search for it. A very good buy.

Pretty much everywhere to be honest
though it might be cheaper to buy 'em from ebay (usually the UK)

you probably won't believe this but i played with a guy a few weeks back (when we all remembered what the sun looked like) and he was using the brush tee, which was fine but, lo and behold he takes it out on the par three for a mid-short iron shot and then looks amazed as he makes a total mess of the shot.
