    Certainly sounds plausible, nVidia cards let you clock the 2d and 3d speeds differently, don't know about ATI though. Try downloading atitool or maybe rivatuner (that works with ati too doesn't it ?) and see what they have to say about it.

    Thats the 2d speed. If you have dual monitor you can leave the catalyst center open and watch the speed go up when you launch a 3d game.
