Travel Insurance for Working Holiday in OZ. Yay or Nay

    Howdi,
Off to OZ in Aug for a year or two. Is it compulsory to have insurance, either travel or personal. To be honest I am not covered by insurance here at home (VHI or BUPA).
The main reason I'm going to OZ is for work, not holidaying. USIT are offering Travel insurance from €360 and they also throw in the VISA for Australia.

Anyone in the know here as to what I should do??

    Thanks

    SB

As far as I'm concerned you'd be a muppet not to get travel insurance. Think about it.. if your bag disappears and never arrives in Australia or gets stolen at any other time, can you afford to replace your bag and the stuff in it? Clothes, toiletries, shoes, the bag, camera, mp3 player, your passport, money, your phone (what if you get mugged?) etc... it all adds up!
What if the house you're living in burns down with all your stuff in it?
If, heaven forbid, you get into an accident and are killed, can your parents afford to travel themselves to Australia and the cost of bringing your body back to Ireland?

There are numerous things which can go wrong while you're away.. Shop around, but definitely get insurance.

Everything you listed (apart from me getting killed) can happen to me here in Ireland and I dont have insurance.
I will prob get health insurance but I dont think I should be paying extra for "Travel" insurance when I wont be travelling, I'll be living and working just like I do here.

Thanks for the reply Daiixi. I've got a bit to think about.

I got the USIT Oz working visa and the travel insurance during the week - its a good deal, your getting insurance for bascailly €160 and for peace of mind, i think it is priceless especially if something happens
