Not critique as such but this is a perfect image to illustrate the effect of a telephoto lens having that sort of concave effect where it crams everything in to the shot. I suppose that does actually say something about the picture because it makes you see the city as having all the buildings crammed in there.

I found that I could sit and look at it for quite a while, there's a lot of interesting repetition of shapes and the contrast really brings out the geometric nature of the buildings. I like this one.

Very interesting shot. I actually like it, again (I know I always say this) a play about with the levels could do wonders for this.

I like the colours on this - makes all the buildings look very uniform and similair. Also the way that they are all very sharp and infocus makes it hard to tell which one is in front of the other - very claustrophobic. It has a kind of collage type of effect which is pretty good.

I did a bit of work on the shadows and highlights here and reduced the saturation. What would you do with the levels?

Definetly increase the contrast, but not above 30. Maybe make it a bit darker, but I'm not sure...

OK I'll give it a try.

I have increased the contrast to +30 and also lowered the levels. What do you think?

Bingo! I love the subtle green!

My only crit now is the halo around the buildings! Maybe some gaussian blur, but I don't really know!

I prefer the original posted image. I like the monotone effect and the 1930's feel that the image has.

Yes. Take the second shot. Monochrome it and add a tinkle of brown. Serve slightly less sharpened and voila. Maybe.....

Have a look at this version please. I've tried to do as you suggested.

I agree, I preferred the original one. Once again people are getting carried away with PS...you took a great shot...no PS required..be happy!

I'll try and remain calm. Obviously no comprehension at all about photography. Give me patience..................

Anyway Jools I love this. It's graphic, atmospheric and very punchy. I love it but I'm sure there will be other views.

Stick it up on "Score me" now & I'll get my 10 in.

Nice shot, very interesting. Good job on it. I did prefer the original shot.

Monochrome with a hint of brown all the way. in the colour versions the sky is ruined and its haloing all round the buildings. looks garish and obvious. black and white covers this up a bit. im with valencia on this one

how do you justify your comprehension?

I'm not getting into the Photoshop arguement again. If you think you dont need it well work away. It's like accepting that a negative doesn't need developing.

I am as always grateful for any advice on my photographs which tends to get the photo the way I want it to look. On the other hand the application of a particular effect even where I'm not so keen on the result helps familiarise me with new techniques and procedures. So in both cases I learn. Thanks again for the constructive criticism.
