Anyone tried high key or low key?

It's something I've seen done in portraits over my time looking at other people's pictures and I've loved it but think if I was to try it would end up just looking simply over or under-exposed.

I'd also like to try it with something other than a portrait because I'm just not a people person (hence the multitude of flower pictures).

Anyone got any experience, or suggestions?

esavoie had this great high key image in the portrait challenge which I really like (attached).

Here's a decent tutorial on how to do high key.

Shrimp's low key one is good, but its a bit overdone in NeatImage (skin looks too plastic).

there was horrible banding in it, It was taken with some cheap 2.0mp cam.. so I had to smooth it a bit.. good tut btw!
