Primary Plans

    Hello,
I am new to this site and I have a few questions.

I m currently doing my Degree which I will be finished in October next year - 2007. My plan is to do the Hibernia post grad after that, say the Oct 07 or Feb 08 courses with Hibernia (all going well!)

    My questions are:

    1) Can I get subbing work in Primary schools while doing my Degree or do you have to be doing the post grad with Hibernia to sub?

    2) Do you need Honours Irish to Sub unqualified?

3)Does any one know if Hibernia will still be 'recruiting' by that stage, as I'll be putting a lot of money into my plans and would be devestated if Hibernia were not around then.

Thank you in advance for any info you give me, its much appreciated.;)

    Welcome to the teachers/lecturers board!

To answer your questions.. sorry if they're short, Im in a rush!
    1) I havent heard of anyone subbing at primary level while doing a degree at the same time. When you're finished your degree you have some chance of subbing but the principals are supposed to look for primary qualified subs if at all possible. This still holds for people who are doing the post grads in any course in Ireland because they're not considered qualified yet.

BUT.. In reality, if you're doing a post grad with Hibernia, you're work will be done in the evenings and weekends if you're working somewhere else, so its feasible, and usual, if you havent a day job that you would go looking for, and get subbing.. depending on how good you are at handing in CVs. I know plenty of people Hibernia that are working all the time in primary schools.

    2) No.. You dont need honours Irish to sub if you are subbing unqualified. You will need it if you want to do a post grad in Ireland. Its a requirement. (Hons C3)

    3) Will the local spar be open in 2 years? Will Steve Staunton have led us to glory? My answer.. I think so, and I hope so. I cant go any better than that.
Hibernia is getting a better reputation and people who graduate are impressing. Thats all it can ask, so I'd hope it'll still be going strong.

Hope that helps. See the other Primary threads for info on the UK qualification route.
