Cheap Lidl/Aldi Skybox, Multiroom for free

I was recently told by a guy I work with that a mate of his bought a satelite decoder or box similar to a skybox in Aldi or Lidl and he was able to get sky multiroom for nothing. He connected the cable goinginto the house from the dish to a splitter and then sent two cables to bought his original skybox and his cheaper unit in one of the other room. Anyway he was able to watch all the channels separately on both boxes. Has anyone any info on this or know if there is any truth to it.

    No, it's not possible.

All the Aldi/Lidl box will do is show Free To Air channels. It won't show encrypted channels like Sky 1, UKTV Gold, etc.

Using a splitter for the two boxes isn't the wisest thing to do. That means one box will have control over the LNB switching, the other box will only be able to show some channels at a time, dependant on what frequency/polarity the other box is on.

In rare cases you can damage one or other receivers Power Supply, as one may be at 18V an the other at 14V feeding the cable.

You can use a Quad LNB on a Mini dish and get free multi-room, but the 1, 2 or 3 non-Sky boxes will only get the FTA channels (Which is all BBC & ITV, many only on other channels on ROI Sky).

A little knowledge is dangerous, as Byte says what is suggested is not smart and only 1/4 true
