RyanAir weight limits PER BAG ??

Was recently on a flight back from Portugal with Ryan Air.

While checking in ( a one and a half hour endurance trial btw ) the checkin staff made the unfortunate family in front of me redistribute the weight of their luggage throughout their bags.

Now all of their luggage was being checked and they were under their total limit.. but they made them repack the contents of two larger suitcases and pack the excess into two smaller ones .. which nearly burst with the effort.

Felt for the parents trying to repack while controlling four young kids. :(

Whats the reasoning behind such strictness ?

Spent 20 minutes the other morning transfering stuff from bag to bag with Mother-in-law and her sister before the got both bags below the weight, absolutly rediculous.

Just as bad as my friend who couldnt had to pay extra for her babys bag, because the baby was given no bag allowance

Basically, Michael O'Leary not having kids himself.

Just wait and watch all 'family friendly' he makes Ryanair when his missus drops a few.

He's already got one as far as I know, but do you really think he flies Ryanair when he goes abroad...?

Going to Germany in July with friend and her three kids, and I'm bringing an air compressor. This could be a bit of a laugh if I decide to play silly buggers :D:D:D:D:D

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Were the larger bags over 20kg? I think Ryanair allow 20kg per person, but won't allow you to combine baggage allowance. Even though the family might be 4 people (i.e. 4x20kg=80kg total, in fact its 4 individual allowances of 20kg each) If a bag is over 20kg the option is repack to get it under 20kg, or pay the baggae excess.

    Actually he does, when possible.

it may have to do more with fitting more cases into the silver containers in the hold which I'm sure each one can't be over a certain maximum weight

Distributing the weight per container makes loading the cargo hold easier ...maybe ?

Ryanair don't use containers. There's a limit of 32kg per bag for health and safety reasons (for staff lifting the bag)

What do all the other lugage handlers around the world do ? Going to the states for example you have much bigger limits.

The bags in question were not that big!

Well the free baggage allowance on most of the transatlantics is now down to 50lb/ 23kg.... I'm sure Aer Lingus will bring it in some time before the next NYC shopping season kicks off

The absolute weight limit of 70lb/ 32kg for baggage at Heathrow is a health and safety issue... needless to say it's appeared this side of the irish sea too...

Then check my previous answer. Were they over 20kg?
