Is it safe to use a pc if you have a surge protector during thunder and lightening?

If you're house's electrics somehow gets hit by lightning all the surge protectors in the Argos catalogue wont save your PC:D

They are only designed to stop fluctuations and surges in the ESB line.

    NOT a Lightning strike.

Yep surge protections will save you from spikes and dips in power but not a lightning strike. Most of the time in my experience the power went down the phone line and took out the modem, everything else was fine. It happened when I forgot to turn the PC off before going to work. Best to turn it off and read a good book until the lightning is over :)

    He He:D

The chances of your PC getting struck are very slim.

But if you want it to be safe during a storm, disconnect everything that connects it to the outside world.

Dont just unplug it, as a modem or powered speakers or a monitor..... could fry it if they are struck....

Yes simply turing off your pc is pointless... Unplug the power and any phone cables...

I lost my Amiga500 to a storm on July 31st 1991 with a surge thingy installed.
