I read this earlier and got thinking. I know New Zealand are the best team in the world right now, but, I seem to recall them being in the same position before previous World Cups and basically peaking too soon. Any opinions? Personally, I think they have it right this time but if Daniel Carter got injured, would they be the same force?

Jaysus, I thought a thread on the english soccer premiership season 2006/2007 was a tad premature.....
    Maybe not.
I think that the team that peaks during the tournament will win it.
Peaking will depend on a number of factors-many of which can change within the next year or so.

They're not going to get to the final. Ireland are going to beat them in the quarter finals.

I honestly think NZ have peaked to soon. I think its between SA or France to win it, Think the French will stutter out of the groups but get better and better after every game..

SA well if you saw them in the 3N last summer at home, you would see how you get at NZ and how you beat them well.......What am i thinkn , Ireland to win the WC :)

    what about england....... :p:p

yes that did not sound so well. I think it will be ethier NZ or SA to win. The rest of the nations are really not putting up much to shout about. NZ have always tended not to peak at the correct time when it comes to the world cup but still its NZ!! SA have a very aggressive defence which you really need to win this competion but if I was forced to choose I would got with NZ just from the lack of any real contenders

NZ can win it, but I'm hoping for either SA or France to win, however SA's form away from SA has been patchy and they easily fall apart due to political crises between now and then.

If LaPorte wasn't France's coach I'd have a lot more faith in the French chances. It kills me to see great French players shackled by his percentage rugby.

Funnily enough, Eng showed last november that they have the forwards to live with NZ's, especially with players like Lund and Rees coming through, but interestingly, except at scrumhalf, Eng have some great backs on their way, at outhalf they've Wilkinson, Hodgson, Goode, but now they've players like Flood, Lamb and Cipriani coming through, on the wings they've Varnell, Voyce, Simpson-Daniel and any number of sheer speedsters hanging about, in the centres Abbott and Lewsey, and Tait seems to be recovering form too.

Eng could spring a surprise yet.
