Bureau quality prints?

    Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone on here knows about or has invested in a serious quality printer for photos?

I know it used to be dye-sublimation was the **** but I think maybe times have changed since then. I'm thinking it's probably laser but does anyone know how good it is on photo paper?

I'm looking to print out 10" x 8" headshots on photo paper. The place I get them at the moment charges €6.50 a 10" x 8" on Kodak paper (they look great, printing them from 3624px x 5136px tif files). So I'm sure in the long term I'd be better off investing in a printer & decent photo paper.

    Any thoughts on it?

    Thanks in advance,

    Take care,

    Rob.

Those prices are a rip-off ! I think you would be better off investing in a printer yourself. I picked up one of these in england a year ago:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0006GBHPU/qid=1147439372/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl/203-6701395-2367163

its a Canon ip8500 and I was blown away by the quality of it. Does A4 and the detail is pretty cool.

There are more expensive/higher end ones available - so it really depends on how much you need it - and how much use you will get out of it. That one above works as a regular document printer too and does CD's as well (never used that bit).

The size of the photo pixel wise is not that important. The DPI (or is it PPI?) should be around 240 (contrary to popular belief 300 is not necessary).

I have an Epson 2100 which does up to A3+. Fabulous prints with great archival quality. There must be an Epson A4 with similar inks but I'm not sure.

I have an Epson R220 that I got for €120 about 2 years ago and combined with Epson premium plus paper is does beautiful A4, although I have my eye on an Epson R1800 A3 one...

    €6.50 for a 10" x 8" is a rip off

you'll find many labs in dublin that are much cheaper and many more online

Phew. Try www.photobox.co.uk. 10x8 costs €2.99. Excellent service. Brilliant quality. I use them all the time.
