Has anyone experience in getting an unused ( rented apartment) phone line reconnected by eircom but without getting phone service with them? Want to help a friend get BT dsl in the apartment. currently they have nophone but there is a socket there and i'd guess there once was phone service. eircom do a line reconnect for €25 but friend wants to go for the €35 all-in-one BT broadband.

so is it possible to just get the line connected but not have an eircom line rental?

To answer the question, yes you can but AFAIK you have to get €ircon to do the reconnecting and you take it from there..

Technically you can go with whatever provider you like once Eircom reconnect the line. However, Eircom are very slow to issue an account number and you will need this to sign up with any other provider. They will refuse to give you this number over the phone and unless you badger them you will have to wait for the first bill to see it.
The line will also have to be tested for suitability.
