this hand just didn't feel right

This hand is from a 6max .50/.1 NLH game.

Recently I had been playing quite LA, called an all in with a flush draw, reraised all in (twice the pot) with KJ on J78 flop and basically been playing pretty fast (by my standards anyway) so my image is probably one of reckless abandon.

I'm in the BB with AcJc ($70). UTG folds, Villian ($101) rasies to $4 and folded to me and I call.

Flop J73 all spades (pot: $8.50).

I check, villian raises $8, I reraise to $16 and villian calls.

    Turn is 7c (pot: $40.50).

What do you do? Check fold/call/raise, raise or push?

Dunno, probably check and see what he does. Maybe check call/raise. Depends on the player.

First off, I fold pf, I dont like playing AJ oop

On the flop id raise to 25 and then push any non spade QK turn

    As played, bet 25

Thats not playing LA, it's throwing away money.

I fold from the BB. Your OOP and too easily dominated.
Flop J73 all spades (pot: $8.50).

Horrible check. You give a free chance for any spade to check behind and outdraw you. I would have bet $8.

If you really must check-raise, make it a decent one. Any spade still has odds to call your little minraise here.
    Turn is 7c (pot: $40.50).

What do you do? Check fold/call/raise, raise or push?

Don't make the same mistake you did on the flop. Your in this deep so bet $25- $30.

    Fold PF
    I agree, I would ususally.

Ok. Part of the reason I didn't check was because a continuation was highly likely. As he'd raised PF I didn't think he'd just check, especially if he held a spade. His PT stats said he was aggressive post flop. Also, I thought if I bet out and was reraised I would have to fold, although I might get reraised with any As or TxTs.

Ok, I agree. My raise was one of trepidation. I was hoping to get away from the hand cheaishply if he 3 bet it - QQ KK AA was running through my head.
But I was giving him odds which was bad.

Ok, so do you think I'm probably ahead at this stage of the game? If I rasie $25 and am reraised its an insta call right, $25 more into a $115 pot? I did raise here, but really didn't like it. I couldn't imagine getting called by anything that I was beating.

I don't mean to bust your balls but seriously, that sounds like a lame excuse for playing like a fish.

    So whats different this time?

Fair enough, catching people out on continuation bets can be a good play sometimes. This really isn't the board to do it on though, especially without any spade.
Also, I thought if I bet out and was reraised I would have to fold, although I might get reraised with any As or TxTs.

Whats wrong with folding to great shows of strength when we have weak hands?

If this was your thinking then you shouldn't be in the hand in the first place. Also you save yourself the problem of him 3 betting if you just bet out like I would have- he calls, we keep playing like we're ahead, he raises, we fold.

Maybe, maybe not - because of the way you've played the hand, we haven't got enough chips left (or current information) to be able to find out. Because of this, my assessment is that we've come this far and its still closeish so we might as well go the whole way. Yes, if you get raised you cant fold, even though you are most probably behind. A desperate fish flushdraw might just stick it all in here so we have to call.
I couldn't imagine getting called by anything that I was beating.

Any spade, KJ, QJ, JT, J9. Depends on the opp.

Because of my previous loose play I felt I may get paid by a weaker than usual holding.

    Ok. Noted.

Giving away a pot with the best hand for one, which I may well have had. But I take your point, I'm in bad position and don't have a great hand to that board. I just felt a lot of hands would raise me if I bet out as I had been playing so aggressivly recently so didn't opt for it.

I don't mean to defend my play - I made this post because I wasn't happy with it. I'm just trying to give you insite to why I did what I did.

Thanks for the info. Any more comments or shall I post the spoiler?

the check min raise is horrible. All it did was bloat the pot out of position with a really really crap holding. Try and keep the pot small in spots like this.

    So here's what happened.

The second seven came on the turn and I pushed my last $50 into the pot of $40 and Villain called instantly. So quick that I knew I was beat by a flush, overpair or a stupid A7.

But I was wrong, he had Jd8d and I couldn't believe he called the flop reraise or the turn push. I came out of the hand feeling very lucky and a little bewildered (and slightly hungry, but that's neither here nor there).

A loose image makes your strong hands get paid off better, not your weak ones.

Defending your blind with AJ is fine here.

As HJ said the min raise is horrid.

you have to bet the hand at this point realistically you are not going to fold so may as well take a positive line
