I have been to NYC 3 times i love the place. First thing you should to is the hop on hop off tour of NYC to get yourself familiarised with it. Please do the night tour its possible the best tour. You should try to head out to Shea Staudium for a baseball game the athmosphere there is better than in Yankee Stadium visit www.mets.com for tickets its only costs about $10 to go to a game but it will give you a real insite that you wont get on a tour of what New York is all about.

Been to New York loads of times, most recently last August. A few things to check out, Shea Stadium home of the New York mets. Empire State Building (two hour queue) worth it still. But your tickets online and shave off an hour. Go rambling on the subway, get lost its great fun! If you are taking kids there is a Toys R Us in Times Square and although I was 18 when I first checked it out I still felt like I was 8yrs old and after waking at 4am on Xmas Night.

Take the kids there and they will adore you. Head down to the piers on lower Manhattan and there is loads to see and do there. Wear your county GAA jersey, I was in 5th Avenue with my Kerry Jersey and a fella passed and yelled Up Cork! Staten Island is good too, I took the ferry there for a couple dollars and took the Train to the end of the line before getting off at a few different stops, fairly nice although it was kind of deserted when I went there. I went on a road trip out as far as Williamsport PA twice! I was relative and they were dropping a cousin out to camp there. It was an 400mile round trip 200 out 200 back times two was 800miles. Nice Highways but easy to get lost. $2.60 a gallon gas is essential when your SUV does 10MPG. Six Flags New Jersey is amazing, took the bus down there and had the best day in ages. I rode the Kigda Ka the worlds biggest roller coaster it was a two and a half hour queue, but when I am on my dying bed years from now it is one of the things that will be etched in my memory along with going to New York for the first time in 2000 on Concorde, first kiss etc.

Have fun while you are out there. :)
