Most useless hobby

There are some odd hobbies out there - ships in bottles, collecting stamps, golf, landscaping for trainsets, building things using burnt matches etc but I think this one takes the cake.
After 16 years at the typewriter, Les Stewart from Mudjimba (Australia) is a millionaire. On 25 November 1998, he reached his goal of typing all numbers from one to one million - in words (not numbers) on his manual machine.

Now why would someone even think of that in the first place, never mind sticking to it for sixteen years?

I guess it's world record rather than a hobby but still...

Probably had a couple of sponsors and some money on himself :)

A couple of sponsers does not condone spending 16 years on a typewriter!! He needs to get a life... or a girlfriend!

Way too much time on his hands, clearly.

even with one finger, what took him so long?

Yep, I think that takes the biscuit as the most pointless thing for someone to do. Imagine he had put his mind down to something useful like helping build world peace or something.

And that's the thing that he spends all his time on?

    Biggest waste of time EVAR!

I'm gonna get my dad to do that... it's the only way he'll learn to poxy type!!!

You're aware that he completed this in 1998? Clearly, if he's still classed as an invalid now and still has nothing to do all day, he's playing WoW.

Well, a hobby isn't necessarily supposed to be useful - all that matters it that it allows a person to spend their spare time in a way they enjoy. Although, if he enjoyed that he has problems says Dr. Simu.

he should start his new project and count backwards from a million. that'll be 32 years in total ! and 32 years well spent, may i add ...

I don't think he actually even made any money out of it, BTW. Horribly regrettable waste of time.

It looks like quite a weighty tome. I think I'll just wait for the movie version.

I don't know.... I spent 14 years learning Irish. Not exactly a hobby, I know, but I think I've got him in the pontlessness stakes...

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

If someone with a wpm average of 0.1183 can set a record in the field of typing then I think there's hope for us all.
