Don't worry... you'll learn to hate like any other job.

Depends on the cinema. The one I work at... is fun, if your on the floor, crap/boring if your on the tills on the food area, but it depends.

Oh, and if you get more than minimum wage, PM me where you're working. The current place is only minimum wage :(

I worked in the SAVOY in town for around 6 months back in '97 during the summer, best job ever! Got to see loads of movies for free - plenty of free popcorn and great people. The multiplex's around Dublin seem to be ****e though, always filthy and staff don't have a clue!

The money is not great and its not really a job for life but the environment is WELL worth it and you'll definately have a great time...enjoy m8!

What sort of money does a projectionist make?

Honestly don't know, but I'd love to know if you knew how to get certified in it. At the moment, most projectionists got an apprentiship in it (of sorts), as mainly its not a job you can just walk into.

    I got the job! :D

I'm not bumping this thread just to say that, but...

the person on the phone told me to bring my passport, and my 2 references to work next Tuesday (when I start training). Does that mean that I've to ask my references to write a reference for me? Or do I type one up myself and just get them to sign it? (what generally happens?) I thought that they'd just ring the references, as they were on both my CV and my application form.

    Thanks!

Ring them up for clarification of what they want. You can tell them that it's ok to ring them too.

    That'll be 2 free passes please :D

Id say they mean...your references name & phone number...not a written ref.

i worked in a cinema for a while, harder then it looks, have to clear out a cinema and clean all pop corn and sweets off the floor in 10-15 minutes before next crowd start coming in, kids movies are the worst, stuff everywhere.

I worked in a small cinema on California Street in San Francisco. It showed lots of arty films and small budget films. I had a great time working there. I worked on the box office, the popcorn/drinks and did usher job too. After each movie finishes you have to go in with a brush and sweep up clean off the seats of popcorn.
Its a fun job for a short time couldnt imagine it longterm. You will get tired of all the free popcorn. We used to fill up a huge refuse sack with the last of the popcorn and give to this homeless guy who used to wait outside for it after we closed. When I got home late at night my flatmates used to say I smelt of popcorn... :p even when i didnt bring any home ;)
