Starting MMA

I guess the better option for someone starting would be to join or train with a dedicated mma club instead of trying to train in the different components separately for time reasons and to make sense of it all and I know plenty of people here run or take part in different clubs so I was just wondering if there's a list of clubs or something (wishful thinking, I know). The only clubs I really know of are Roper's and the mmaireland.com guys and the other places advertised in people's sigs :)

Would be best if you put up where your based, so the boys can give you clubs in the area!

Actually yeah, I just presumed I'd be bussing it in and out, but I'd be real interested in something closer to home. I'm near Blanchardstown.

Don't know of anyone closer to you than us goo. There is a Judo club in coolmine that do some MMA I think but I'm not 100% sure how often or what the details are with what they do.

I always hear good stuff about the jiu jitsu club in Coolmine too, but noone ever mentioned them doing mma to me I think.

I'm going to need a car, or a bike, or those shoes with wheels or something...

There is a junior class before and the senior class starts at 17.15. I came down once for about 17.05 and they seemed to be getting warmed up. But 17.15 sounds correct. Actually, it is correct, the boss just said it was. Head down for 17.00 and be ready for 17.15 (better safe than sorry).

how's ur judo coming along paddy? already you're taking on the big boys?:)

judo was going okay i thought, started to actually get some things to work for me in stead of just pulling at people :)

but the judo training is stopping there, the coach wants to concentrate on his own training... which is fully understandable so i think i gonna try mke it over to coolmine for judo after thai on a sat....

Judo mick was saying tue and thur are big days for judo... tis a shame tue and thur are the 2 days for judo but neither suit me at the moment... will hopefully get to continue it in coolmine cos i love the training at the moment

    where you training gymrabbit?

    paddy

    Hi paddy,

Obviously didn't make it out to kieran's tonight. I train judo in Trinity college (I was actually talking to you before about a muay thai workshop/seminar but never got it going). Portmarnock train judo on mondays, may be a bit far for you. Lusk and Coolmine judo clubs are tuesday and thursday. there's a club in maynooth, have a saturday class at 3pm not sure what times they train at during the week. i'll be on the look out for judo classes on mondays/wednesdays/fridays and i'll let you know.

No bother man! Sure your more than welcome to pop down any time and see for yourself!

    Paddyc

Great, just when I was thinking there's loads of people that do judo on boards it turns out to be another kev username!

as far as as gettin to coolmine in an hour from rathcoole, I have no clue I'm not driving.... yet. but yeah Christmas shopping in the Blanch centre turns blanch into a massive car park.

Dermo? Whats the best way out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53 ✭✭Dermot Nolan

    Paddy,

Best way to coolmine from rathcoole is to head through Lucan on the Lock Rd. Then take the back roads to Clonsilla then on to Coolmine. I made the journey in 20 mins with no traffic.

I'll PM detailed directions when i get a min.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 377 ✭✭spiral

Paddy the best way is to come out of the industrial estate and head into Newcastle village then take the right turn signposted for Lucan , go all the way through to Lucan village take a left at the traffic lights at courtneys pub and an immediate right at the next corner 20 yards away you'll see a centra and a bank on the corner go down to the end of that road and turn left until you come to a roundabout take a left going over the bridge and take a right off the bridge keep going for a mile or so until you come to your next left tinkers hill this is an awkward corner go up this hill and keep going straight past westmanstown gym until you come to a T junction, take a right here and keep going straight over Clonsilla trainstation bridge taking a right after the bridge keep going till you get to a roundabout take a left keep going till you get to the next roundabout which is the one beside powercity take a right here and your just about there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53 ✭✭Dermot Nolan

Thats the way i was thinking spiral. That should get you there Paddy.

Hey Paddy you know that you can't wear those shorts you have with the tassles on them when you do judo right? Well, you can, but you'd have to be careful nobody sees up them when you get thrown on your arse:).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,498 ✭✭✭paddyc

I feel so much love on this forum... perhaps a wee bit too much from a certain glasnevin man :)

will take a trip over this sat to try that run out and train if i'm on time

    thanks dermot and luke

    paddy

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,448 ✭✭✭Roper

Excuse me Mr.Clint I am not a Glasnevin man! I'm Santry born and rared, its just that all the hard chaws there didn't need another martial arts club so I went where people needed me:D

    Hey Luke,
I never got over to you that time. I'm tied up at the moment with training but hopefully next year I'll be giving judo a shot and I'll pop in.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 450 ✭✭gymrabbit

    Sorry Luke.:( :(:(:(

I actually haven't done any judo in AGES
