Do you think it's the power supply?

A mate put a machine together the other day for a friend of the family and it has been suffering random reboots. He's narrowed it down to playback of media and using the DVD drive etc and especially the PCI modem when it occurs. The components were no too expensive (it's a 2.66Ghz P4, with 1GB RAM and a X550 Advantage 128MB DDR ,PCI-Express, Tv-Out/DVI-I, Lite-Retail, 1 SATA HD, 1 DVDRW drive). So it's not a powerhouse. He bought the following

A coolermaster case with 380w Power Supply. Do you think there is enough juice in the power supply to power this rig, or do you think he may have dodgy RAM, or what else do you think it could be. He's convinced himself that it may be the power supply? and I would think so too, especially when he starts utilizing some extra component inside the box when it occurs. However it's a bog standard PC, so I can't understand why 380w wouldn't be enough.

    Any ideas?

A 380 Watt PSU should easily handle that if it's working properly.

My initial suggestion would be to test the memory with Memtest86+ first. Then possibly run Prime95 to test CPU stability. They're far easier tests to run.

Does it only happen when he is using the DVD drive or Modem or can it happen when he's just using the PC? I'd also take a look at Windoes Event Logs to see if it has put anything there.

I'd also check the motherboard manufacturers site for possible BIOS updates that might fix known issues.

Oh and lest I fail to suggest it - I presume he is 100% sure that there is no malware/spyware on the system that might be causing this?
