just bought a graphics card from ebay.

the seller said 15stg for shipping.
I paid for item plus 15stg.

got item today and postage was 5stg.
I asked why the difference and got this reply.

"hi we take all costs in to account eg. eaby fees paypal fees postage packageing ect...."

Is this correct - do they not have to take the costs of posting the item.
It was shipped in brown paper a week late !!!!

    What can i do.

    thx

    em, not a lot.

P&P includes envelope, packaging, time spent writing envelope, the drive to the post office, time in the queue to buy stamp/register, the drive home.

Assuming that is that he lives 20 miles from a post office. Seems steep but tough luck really.

I have seen this a number of times, alot of sellers have a flat rate shipping they have it set at. I often get items where shipping is $10 and I see the sticker on it saying it was only $5, but the seller has to pay ebay and so on, so I think most of the time its fair enough. There are some of course who charge far too high rates in shipping as extra profit.

It's a covert way of raising the price without putting it on the actual item.

Ultimately you have to take the shipping in as part of the price. So in reality it makes no difference if the extra £10 was on the item or on the shipping - you pay one figure at the end of the day.

The only thing to make sure when buying is to get the shipping confirmed before you commit.

Always check the shipping costs before you bid. Even if the shipping is way over actual postage costs, you have to pay because you enter into a contract at bidding time.

Theres nothing you can do, only think is to leave Neutral feedback saying postage was a rip.
I thought eBay banned this, on the basis that it eats in to thier margin. Not only do they make a lot of money they pay almost nothing to eBay.

You often see stuff from Hong Kong for 99p with £20 postage (note use of £ rather than $ or € to tempt you). or £5 + £175p&p - it's even worse because some of them are so blatent having 5 or six auctions for swords or stuff and the total remains the same when you include the postage but the price changes from a fiver to a hundred , but with different postage.

Is there a button in eBay search to hide sellers who charge more than €15 for postage ?

I buy from ebay all the time. If theres only a couple of pounds in the difference I say nothing but a couple of times I've been overcharged by over £10 and have given a neutral or negative feedback ( depending on how much). But now I always ask before biddding if not already stated. :p
