Hey, My Desktop has compleatly disappeared and I can only access Programmes from the Task Manager.

Has anybody got any idea how to get my Desktop on screen again. All the icons and the Start button are gone. Also the MY Computer icon in the Task Manager list is empty. It's just a blank file but I can still access My Computer options through it.

How do I Reboot in Safe Mode this?

I have ran Ad-Aware, Spybot and AVG and found nothing.

I did have a VX2 that Adaware couldn't get rid of but Spybot seems to have gotten rid of it.

    Any Suggestions?

What happens if you open Task Manager, choose File -> New Task (Run...) and then type 'explorer' without the quotes in the box that pops up?

I tried it in Safe Mode but a black screen appears with Safe Mode on it. Explorer doesn't open.

I tried typing explorer into the Task Manager Run window and it says Cannot find Explorer.

Also Explorer doesn't appear in the Task Manager Processes window.

    Boot into Safe Mode
From Applications tab - click New Task - pop in %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe and do a System Restore back to a date when it was working.

So, with your browser window open, can you browse to your desktop from there? Just type DESKTOP in your browser and see what happens

my friend has this problem on his laptop too, im guessing its some virus, we have tried everything to sort it but no luck, the only thing tha worked was a format and reinstalling, as a repair install didnt do the trick.

if you ever find out how to fix this let me know
