Shelbourne Greyhound Park, any good for photography?

    Heya all,

I'll be going to Shelbourne Greyhound Park this evening on a night out from work. Is it any good to bring my camera? I've never been to a greyhound track so have no idea what to expect. I'm sure I'll regret it if I don't bring the camera, on the other hand... if there's nothing really to photograph I'll be carrying my gear all evening for nothing.
Another question that arise is whether you're actually allowed to bring a semi-pro camera to the track?

    Thanks,
    Dimy

You won't be allowed to use flash, or get very close to the track. I haven't been in Shelbourne in years but used to work at the track in Waterford.

A girl in my course did a photography project on that place once and she got some great shots without the flash but the photos were all black and white and of an atmospheric(super grainy) nature

Hmm...I think I'll just bring my camera with the 50mm 1.8 prime and see what I get. Although I'm not sure yet if I bring it :) Decisions decisions...

I don't think there would be a problem bringing a camera in, even a 350D. The trackside just outside the main stand is a good place as that's where the finish line is and the trackside bookies. The track there is always pretty will lit up.
The 50mm might be a bit short of you plan on getting any close-up shots of the dogs

i dont know how you expect to lose all of your money, if you're spending all of your time taking pictures :)

We actually have a private suite there with food and all. I'm not really there to put money on the dogs (cuz I don't have any!)
But as I've never been to anything like that, I'm sure I'll still have a good time even without wasting money ;-)

Get down to the finish with the 50mm Dimy and we will wait for the artistic motion blur pics of dog's chasing rabbit impersonator :)

I didn't bring my camera, but I don't think I misses many potential great shots.. we were up high in a box behind glass. It was good craic though, won money on my first bet that lasted the whole evening... got even at the end :)
