My parents recently got one of these with 256MB RAM so I wanted to upgrade this. I went through kompletts Crucial memory selector and it popped up DDR PC3200. Thing is that shop4memory doesn't list the Dimension 1100 so will any of the PC3200 work or do I need anything more specific?

Also if anyone has a link to a good installation guide, I'm sure google will help me but a link would be useful.

    Thanks.

note the spec of the crucial memory and find the same spec on shop4memory. (don't use the memory configurator)

Best thing is to mail shop4memory and tell them what model you have and what module size you want. They'll get back to you with suitable modules.

As for installing. Look at the manual (should be on desktop, also available online at dell.ie) and it will show you the location of the RAM slots. All you need to do is turn over the laptop, unscrew the cover to the slots (2 small screws), insert new module (can only fit one way). Replace cover and that's it. Anyone can do it. Just be careful with static elec etc.

Thanks, it's the Dimension 1100 they have which is the desktop, I think I have to take off a lagre portion of the case to get access but I'll have a look at the manual, it'll have to be online because I'm not where the computer is.

agh sorry! brain fart moment there.

same principle for desktop. Open the case up (easy to do), locate the RAM slots and insert the modules.

I'll find a link to manual for you.

According to here you can use PC3200 (184pin) ram, but do ask shop4memory.com about it. I would rather deal with them than anyone else.

Any 3200 ddr ram will do, and luckily its quite common second hand so you should be able to get another stick of 256mb - im sure this is sufficent for your parents needs - for about 25 notes.
