Hi, I was going to put this into the politics section but just interested to see, since this seems to be where most hang out, if there was a General Election tomorrow which party would you favour?. Im just interested to see if recent newspaper polls are indeed representative as this forum seems a good cross section of the political divide. Cheers:)

If a GE was held tomorrow who would you vote for? 73 votes

    Fianna Fail
    0% 0 votes
    Progressive Democrats
    19% 14 votes
    Fine Geal
    10% 8 votes
    Labour
    23% 17 votes
    The Green Party

    Sinn Fein

Great, so the country would be run on independents. :D Actually that probrably would not be a good idea:o

Yeah I would go with an independant.

I normally vote Green/Indo, depending on the indo candidate, but would never vote for a single issue indo. Pointless imo.

Anyway, I've been pondering the next election for a while, and think it's time for change. As much as I'm loathed to do so, I feel that to get FF/PDs out, one must vote for FG/Lab. Lab are the lesser of two evils (again, it's only my opinion), so would go for them. Although nothing annoys me more than these so-called socialists!

FG/Labour are a good combination and are pre-compatible for govermnent. Like Win2003 and WinXP!

    Gotta go FF/PD
They have turned this country around since they took office 9 years ago - look at the boom period this country is enjoying

It had caused alot of problem because of our new found wealth
more people coming into a country means more problems, but i think these can be overcome

I just dont see Enda Kenny leading the country, Bertie had a bit more authority

I have to say, I really dont see a credible alternative to the government at the moment. What really turns me off FG/LAB is the fact that the Greens would have to be there too. SF is a party of headbangers and Independents are next to useless.

Asked this about a month ago http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2054900952&highlight=vote
it went pretty much as you'd expect, except that the Green Party beat Labour, Fine Gael and Sinn Fein and everyone else besides except Fianna Fail, but seeing as most people that would vote for the greens are probably vegitarians I doubt they'll have the strength to walk to the polling stations and the ones with electric cars will probably die in horrible electric fires, so I can't see that tansfering to election day.

Besides that, if the poll is an accurate reflexion then it looks like unless Labour and Fine Gael team up and probably even if they do it'll be a Fianna Fail/PD coalition again. So start saving up for your full private health insurance, bin charges, water charges, funeral tax, denim tax, shoe lace tax, PC licenses, Tv licenses, Radio licenses, Furniture licenses, all the money you'll need to replace your stolen and vandalized property, and of course so you have a bit of change in your pocket when they pass a law to make it leagl to grab you by your ankles and shake your pockets empty.

Where to start on this one...

The wealth in this country isn't evenly distributed... The well off have improved their lot, the wealthy certainly have.

The rest of us, who have jobs, certainly aren't better off. It's not all about the boom and the "new found wealth".

When's the last time you were in A&E? Have you visited a relative on a trolley in a hospital corridor?

Paid a toll to cross a bridge you've already paid for recently?

Been a victim of crime, or know someone who has been? Reported something and then not had any action from the Gardaí?

I could go on, but for brevity I won't, but I'm sure you get my point.

Granted we can't be sure Enda and Pat can do better, but surely it must be time to kick Bertie out. Aren't you fed up with the lies, the failure to deliver on the last manifesto, the jobs for the boys, the corruption?

Why does Fine Geal never bring up corruption? Because theyve been caught at it themselves. Equally corrupt IMO.

Bertie ahern has no authority. he is a bumbling idiot who is afraid to sack people for serious misconduct. when michael lowery was caught he was fired, full stop.

martin cullen has gone from one crisis to the next: monica leech, voting machines, CIE and a whole lot more. he is also unable to remove various incompetent people from positions of power in Irish Rail and Dublin Bus.

ivor callely perpetrated a serious abuse and misuse of his ministerial position by creating conflicts of interest for civil servants.

willie o'dea thought it was ok to be pictured with a gun. he also has an almost fascist demeanour when interviewed.

dermot ahern refuses to deal decisively with the US/Shannon issue. he skirts around the issue and reproaches anyone who questions the United States as if they were god.

brian cowen refuses to add more tax to cigarettes despite the escalating health problems in the country. if 10 cost 10 euro then there'd be fewer regular smokers.

jim mc daid is allowed to continue in the dail despite a known serious alcohol addiction. he then drives down the wrong side of a dual carriageway until an upstanding taxpayer risked his own safety by blocking the carriageway.

fianna fail are content to sell our natural resources to various overseas heavyweights ROYALTY FREE - like Shell for instance.

mary harney is allowed to push her privatise-the-lot adgenda unopposed.

there are still people waiting on trolleys in every hospital in ireland. vincent's hospital was deplorable only last year - what did management do with cash they had - they did a cosmetic upgrade (not mechanical) of the lifts! a government minister who allows people who make decisions like this to continue in a job must go.

    .....

we are tired of this government. they like to brainwash people with things like SSIA's but at the end of the day they are a worn out shower of gombeenmen. law and order has broken down, and we need someone to come and fix it.

so it breaks down to someone to come and fix it and if Enda Kenny is the best candiate then were better of the FF, because looking around there is nobody else

I know your points are valid

FF on a whole, have been good for this country.

If it were tomorrow, Labour, cos the current government is a load of sh*te, and Enda Kenny would be an embaressment of a leader for the country. Pat Rabbite looks like he could be a Taoiseach, relatively speaking. I'll have to read up a bit more on them though, tbh.

I haven't registered yet, mind you, so it doesn't matter :p

I'd probably go with FF/PD set up again - I just don't see enough qualities with the rest.

FF-PD because I don't agree with Enda's promise to open the labour market to Romania and Bulgaria when they join the EU.

A PD who doesn't believe in an open labour market? The pigs are flying, and it must be pure greed that's propelling them.

Well McDowell said a few months ago that the govt might not extend the same open access to workers from Bulgaria and Romania that they did for the existing 10 new EU states.
