Hi, I'm planning on heading out of the EU for the next few years or maybe for good and I was just wondering if I can claim any tax back. I know very little about this area, just remember when going back to college I was able to claim. I've been back working a 9 to 5 in Ireland for the last 5 years in the higher tax bracket. Anyone any ideas? Also I've still got a house here that I'll be renting out for the next year or so, I know if the rent covers just the mortgage I don't get taxed on it, but could this be affected if I could claim tax back?

    Cheers

Yes you can claim back tax. I left in the middle of the year and got around €3k back :D
I can't remember the forms but I talked with someone in the tax office (took forever to get through) and they sent them out to me, think it was 2 forms I had to fill in!

Download and complete form P50 from the Revenue website and submit with your P45. You don't actually get "tax back" but you get a refund of tax overpaid in relation to unused tax credits and bands.

I imagine this only applies if you are leaving the EU, would my imagination be correct or is my imagination incorrect? :D

No it applies if you leave Ireland for any country as you will not have used up all your tax credits for the year.
