Still a year and a half away though. They must be planning something special to be developing it for that long.

This is gonna really hurt Sony!

really i wouldn't think so, so its out a month early on 360, i bet people who buy a PS3 will probably get it anyway. I wouldn't buy a 360 just to play the game a month or so early

I thought they were coming out the same day... Only advantage for microsoft is the exclusive DLC, but even then, will that sway people sufficiently, probably not...

It will be released for both platforms, on the same day in 2007.

Well whatever happens, I can see alot of gamers buying the cheaper console, that is going to have access to added content for gta, 360 sales could have further increases. Especially gamers that dont intend to buy €500 or €600, or a console, thats version wont have the exclusive DLC. But at the end of the day, Sony will prolly shift many, many more copies, simply because it's sony.

you know, you're the only person to make the same point as me. though my point was more about the fact that GTA is linked by umbilicle chord to playstation - like it or not.

Agreed, and I expressed that in my post by stating that sony will still shift more copies of gta, simply because its the playstation brand, but we cant overlook the fact that joe soap gamer, wanting some mindless destruction after a hard days work, will go for the cheaper option, if he can still get his game on.

hmm, just wondering, whats to stop sony countering that announcement by doing a deal which incorporates shedloads of extra content being included on the extra 40gigs of space that a bluray disc has over a normal dvd.

MS said exclusive "downloadable episodic" content. all sony would need do is point out that their content would be there from the get go, but unlockable content and they can get away with it.

it now seems clear that the "downloadable episodic conetent" didn't quite refer to GTA4... instead, it means "a rockstar title". peter moore playing with words again to make headlines. which worked a charm. the rockstar title in question, so people believe now anyway, was table tennis

I doubt there will be enough content to fill a DVD9 yet alone any where near a single layer Blu-ray disc.

Seems strange to call it GTA4 when San Andreas was the fifth installment (including the two original ps1 games). Even if you don't include those, Liberty City Stories on the PSP was still number 4

I think most people agree that they weren't actual sequels, they just built on the basic GTA3 format, new music, new cars and a bigger city each time... it's kind of like how GTA London was the third GTA game, but wasn't a sequal to GTA2

Hopefully GTA4 will be something original, I'm not expecting the leap we saw from 2 to 3, but something to make GTA4 worth having, where San Andreas just wasn't

I heard that! I still prefer the top down view of GTA 1 & 2, I think the games play better imho, I was excited about the idea of the 3d version when it was launched but dissapointed when I got into it a bit and all the subsequent sequels have just been more of the same.

the phrase "Milking it" comes to mind when I think of GTA these days and that's coming from a guy who has owned, played and has worn out pads playing the Tony Hawk games!

I think that this will still hurt Sony fora number of reasons.
How many die hard sony fanbois have been saying that the PS3 will be better than the xbox because it'll have a GTA exclusive?!
Plus, in the aftermath of E3, nobody is really talking about the launch of the PS3, but instead most attention is on the Wii, and GTA4!
    Microsoft timed it very well.

IMO, where Halo saved the Xbox, GTA and PES saved the PS2, or at least put it in the unsummountable lead it is in now... people got the PS2 just for GTA or PES (or both). Sony now have a year to have other exclusives instead of GTA; I don't think it will have a huge effect against sony but it will for MS, people who have been holding off because of it will now buy a 360; they may still get a ps3 though.

i think it may be to do with engines rather then anything else. gta1 was a custom engine, as was gta2. then they changed to renderware for gta3, and kept the same engine accross vice city and SA. now rockstar are working on a new custom engine for the next game, as in, the 4th engine in the GTA franchise.
