Hey im thinking of getting an ipod but can anyone recommend what I should go for? I read about ipods that are like 30gb in size with video but seriously that is an insane amount for music files which would average around 4mb...is there any point in spending that amount on a 30gb ipod over a 1gb?

Also what price should i be thinking of for the different types? Also would komplett be the cheapest place to get or would it be the same price in a high street shop? Basically any info would be great.

It really depends on the amount of music you have or want to listen to.
Do you plan on watching movies on the player?
Where will you be when using the player? i.e. do you need a decent battery life.

Well battery life would be important whats the lasting length usually? Wont be using it for films I reckong 1gb would be more than enough. Whats the average high street price compared to that of komplett?

Don't get an iPod unless you want an inferior product for a jacked up price.

I think the Creative Zen Micro would be best suited to your needs.

Keep in ind that most albums are about 60MB in size, so 1 GIG can only hold abotu 14 albums, which isn't really that much when you think about it. I rotated them the whole time, I had a lot of "misc" mp3s on mine too so I could only have about 11 albums.

    5 GIG is much better.

I'd think carefully before going for a creative player

I bought a Creative Zen NX a couple of years ago, and for the most part it was a really cool player, at the time it was far cheaper than equivalent ipods, but after a while the audio started to go, first in the left channel, recently in both). Creative use really crappy microphone jacks which have a tendency to become damaged very quickly (regardless of how careful one is).

The same problem occurs even on recent models. :(

I too am about to buy an mp3 player, (To replace the NX which has just about died) and I am now reluctant to go for a creative model again and am looking into an ipod (Which aren't without their own hardware problems unfortunately)

I wouldn't go for an iPod. They're overpriced, and you're locked into their software. You're paying for Apple fanciness, nothing else. Read some online reviews about other players, and get your hands on something that doesn't need you to download from a particular store and doesn't prevent you from sharing with your mates.

I don't know why a number of people make this mistake but there's nothing about the iPod player itself that forces you to use only m4p files, you can use ordinary mp3s on the player also. You can also use it just in drive mode but to get easy song transfers onto the iPod, you need the free and downloadable iTunes software - similar to how most players use their own software to transfer files etc. There's nothing odd about the iPod that way.

Having used, over the last three years, three different iPods and two Creative players, the best all round player I think I've found is the iPod Nano (4GB). Excellent sound, easy to navigate, decent battery and small enough to carry in my wallet - think it's just a fantastic combination of features at an incredibly convenient size.
