A guitarist/vocal and a drummer are looking for a bassist and to start gigging as soon as possible, and (hopefully we have practise spot in Maynooth). Both members have experience of playing gigs and writing material with previous bands. A lot of material already written(we really want to get started playing!!) but ideas still happy to get them :D , influences...pretty much alot but to narrow it down ever so slighly  S.O.A.D , Foo Fighters , Nirvana , Opeth , Tool , The Music and so so so

What kind of skill level would be required for your stuff? I can learn most songs pretty handy but I just swapped from guitar to bass not long ago so I may not have enough experience for you guys.

ahh as long as you play bass.. i suppose we could write whatever riffs are needed for you at the begginng ...but you'll pick up quickly enough;) .. quickest way at learning is playing with the group...and once we get used to playing in a group we'll be writing more material together as it goes along

You know my theory is that the secret to a hit song is the bassline, the only instrument combining rythm and melody. When played right, can create the desired underlining emotion either contributing to the words or simply whether its major, minor or natural minor contributing to the feel of a song.
There are simply too many lads out there who just took up the bass because its simpler to play on one string(domdomdomdom), instead of fingering a chord on guitar. I went from lead guitar shredder to bass because it was more challenging.
You can study engineering for 5 years and walk into a job, you can study music for 10 years and still be looking for means to make ends meet.
How do we separate the wannabes' from natural musicians who need the quid?
