Bad Call, Standard Call or Good Call?

    10/20 4 handed

villain can play, Ive probably played him three sessions a week for the past month or so, he knows my game well and I his.

Me on the button with AhKh folded to me I bet out 70 (3400 back)
    SB folds
BB villain flat calls for 50 (820 back)

    Flop comes Q 2 2 rainbow

    villain checks
    I lead for 130
    villain raises to 550

This raise looks to me like he wants to snap off what he correctly has identified as my continuation bet, I dont believe he will raise me so much with a queen or a two and about 75% of the time he would have raised me pre flop with a pp, but it is plausible he has a mid pp and wants to take the pot here.

I decide I am probably good and seeing as a call only leaves him 270 back I push.

He thinks and calls with AJ and I rake the pot.

I think this is pretty standard but villain and one of the others moaned about how bad a push it was for about an hour, whilst the other player thought it was good play on my part.

I know its not a massive winner play to get your cash in with Ace high but I think a fold here would have been akin to bending over?

Put yourself in the viallain's position: What do you think your AJ beats that makes you call?

Based on read - Standard Push, based on the amount of history with the Villain, I think you correctly went with your read and made a standard push.

It's 4 handed, he could put on quite a quite wide range Pre-Flop here, hence his pre-flop calling range was also wider than normal, (i.e. wider than a PP) and therefore you made the correct push.

    Standard.

His bet stinks of a bluff knowing that yours was a continuation bet. At 1/2 or 2/4 that would be a standard call for me against many regulars.

I don't like it and don't think it is standard at all. I think he has a pair here often enough and if he keeps doing this, some time he will do it when you have a real hand. If he constantly does this I will call him down with AK high but he is getting away with it the first time.

I also think you should post hands without results, just say I bet 130, he makes it 550 with 270 behind, now what?

    Terrible play by villain.

How deep does Villain have to be before you chicken out and fold the the c/r?

surely a push here by the villain would be a much worse bet, as it stinks much more of weakness and he is pot committed here anyway. id say if you have a read and think hes at it then you go with it, what good is a read of you dont act on it. if your pretty sure he has none of it then push, and against any pair you have 24% chance to hit do 1 in 4 your beating a Q with kicker lower than J. so if you think he does this 75% of time with Aj then its a good call.

If I decide I am going to play the hand then it doesnt realy matter how much he has up to say him having 1500 back.

If he is playing more than 1500 back then I will probably go away. Dont get me wrong it is not often I get it in with ace high but I tend to take a stand if I feel I am being bullied ( this character trait can on accasion leave me looking very stupid )

He doesnt do it 75% of the time with aj, I think he played this well but the size of his bet just didnt fit the way he usually plays, plus I know he thinks I go after every flop. If he had raised it to 390 which would be his standard raise with a queen here then I would have gone away.

I think you made a good play against a player you know well. It was a mistake on your villains part though. I'd say he learned something from that hand!
