Showdown Poker Tour

Just heard that only 23 players turn up for the Showdown Poker Tour at Gunshot Poker Club in London, which was the first event of the Showdown Tour with a 5k buy-in and will have an event in the Fitz later this month. Some of the following players turn up, Ram Vaswani, Barny Boatman, Ross Boatman and Joe Beevers, having committed themselves to the Tour, also Dave Colclough, Mats Gavatin, Woody Deck, Robin Keston, Ben Grundy, Jim Kerrigan and Andy Black.

Not really a great start, wonder is this a sign of too many big buy events every week, or a down turn in the number of people been able to afford the top level events. There were very few online qualifiers for this event, I’m sure that played a big part of it, so without the internet, the big live game events also seem to suffer from numbers.

The final table will be shown on tv later in the year.

The event was won by Mats Gavatin, collecting nearly 40k and Barny Boatman came 2nd for nearly 20k, they paid 4 places in total.

what a crap lineup, I'm glad now I haven't tried to qualify for the Fitz one.

was talking to Barny last night and he said they're definatly coming over for it. Personally, I think the buy-in is too big and comes at the worst time possible - between the Irish Open and the IPT final.

Barny is also thinking of coming over for the Poker million qualifier in the Macau this Saturday. €300 + 1 rebuy. I'd say they'll get 80+ players.

Think there has been a complete lack of marketing. Other than that I think that there needs to be a rival to the poorly run EPT and the structure looks better.
