just got back from this show and after seeing josé twice before this i'd have to say he put on a steller show, with two new songs AFAIK - i have a recording which i don't know how it turned out yet, i've no headphones until my shures come.

Anyways, as i said at least two new songs, two encores and a new cover (last song) i knew the song but couldn't put a name on it...

after he went off after the first encore i thought that was it, and he wouldn't of played "heartbeats" there were a few angry people around me i was kind of glad that it looked like he wouldn't play it don't know why but i just did.

It was Small Town Boy by Bronski Beat.

Sounds great, would've loved to have seen him in The Olympia. It's a bit mad that it's just over 6 months since he played Crawdaddy.

He's on 4 tracks on the new Zero 7 album (out Friday week) including a great new version of "Crosses".

aye it was great song, i love his covers as he actually makes the song sound like his, too many artists nowadays don't do that with covers.

i heard that new version of crosses with zero7 and i have to say i don't like it even though crosses is my favourite josé song.

The Independent didn't think much of it:
"Inventive Gonzalez plays a largely forgettable gig...
His music has its moments - particularly in the inventive guitar playing - but it is ultimately a pretty, unobtrusive fare.
It's the kind of material that people choose to put on in the background while hosting a dinner party.
And the audience didn't seem overly excited with what they were hearing - as one largely forgettable tune faded into another. "

I'd agree with that review completely actually...

He has a lot of nicely melodic stuff.... but they songs don't seem to really be about very much and aren't particularly engaging... plus they all seemed to be very short.

The lyrics in Teardrop and Small Town Boy completely dwarfed anything in his own songs.

I really just went to the gig on a whim, not knowing much about him, but I wasn't impressed.

I quite enjoyed the concert but did a lot of yawning throughout - ie. it was a bit lack lustre. No beer outside of the bar either :(

Only in a glass... I drank lots of beer in plastic cups.
