I'm recently arrived in the city of light, and I'm staying way out south in the suburb of Massy which dies everyday before 8pm. Some friends are coming to visit and I'm trying to scope out a good area to go out after our sightseeing!

For the weekend, we'll be staying between Bd. de Bonne Nouvelle and R. La Fayette. Basically a couple of minutes from Gare Du Nord. The area of Montmarte is close (10mins west) but seems to be all restaurants/cafés/bistros (except for the obligatory Irish bar, which is fine but if we end up there all night it'll be an awful cliché).

Anybody who's spent some the in the city able to point in the right direction?

PS €9 pints are not what I'm looking for!!

There's an aussie bar up on Rue de Clichy (almost opp. Moulin Rouge) and they have a happy hour every night. Good start to any evening!

Drinking beer is Paris is always an expensive pursuit, but you'll always find loads of bars that have cheap cocktails, and wine is never expensive!

Thanks, I'll go have a gander. I've another weekend to scout before the gang gets here.

Jesus...I haven't been out to Massy in years! It's on the RER C right?

So you're looking for a cheap place to spend the night that isn't an Irish place?

Besides the usual Irish bars (there must be 4 in that area alone) you can spend a great night in a Dutch bar just down the road from the Bd. They advertise in FUSAC that they have the cheapest non-happyhour pints in town.

    Bar Le Port d'Amsterdam http://www.leportamsterdam.com

    20, rue du Croissant
    75002 Paris

Information: By Metro: Ligne 8/9 - Grand Boulevards, sortie rue Montmatre Ligne 3 - Sentier/Bourse

The Oberkampf area will have the highest % of cheap French bars filled with a fairly young crowd that are more drinking holes rather than superpubs.

Check out funkymaps.com will give u a listings off all the places to go in paris. some off them are irish but osullivans at montmarte is deadly on a saturday nite.. try the highlander at pont neuf or there is a place in the latin quarter beside the hurling that serves cheap drink. it is to the left of it as u walk up the hill.. very small bar..

Hmm, I can't remember the name of it but that bar beside the Hurling is pretty cheap (small and smokey too though) but if you don't like it there's about 2 other cheap-ish non-Irish/British places in the area.
