Heading to egypt in two weeks and was originally going to head to Dahab for some scuba diving. After the recent bombings i just wouldn't feel right heading there so looking at other resorts such as Hurghuda or Sharm El Sheikh. Has anyone been to these resorts or offer opinions on which is the best place to travel to in egypt. Thanks for any help.

Not sure about Hurgada, think it is quite like Luxor, a lot of people hassling you to go into their shops and a lot of begging in Luxor.

I don't think you can fly into Hurgada. Last time I was there you had to fly to Luxor and then a 4 hour bus trip under armed guard accross to the red sea. We stayed north of Hurgada in El Gouna, a completely man made resort. Very nice. It's built on a penninsula and they literally excavated all aroundm turning it into an island with two bridges, both secured by armed guards at all times. Resort was lovely and the Movenpick on the beach was excellent. Not crowded and pretty luxurious for the price.

Went to Egypt last year, flew into luxor and then took a trian down to Aswan for a few days to see the sights and then train to Cairo, would have loved to have gone to Alexandra but time didn't allow, went to Hurghuda by bus, a long trip. Took the mini buses every where in Hurguda and only have to pay the local rate. Hassle city but nice beachs and can travel via high speed ferry to Sharm El Sheikh and Jordan, so a good base. Very developed in places so have to be careful where you stay. Their are two towns there connected by minibuses or taxi. Minibuses are by far the cheapest and easiest way to get around

Again time limits so after a few day took another bus to Luxor. It was after the bombing so the hotels rate were great. Stay in 1 star for 2-3 euro each to 4-5 stars for 20-30 euro each

Loved Luzor and Aswan, lots to see and do and in general everyone very nice but will try and make some money from you, the tipping and being ripped off makes you very hard very quickly, definely travel around if you get the chance
