    Hi,

Until recently I was able to use gmail at work by outting an 's' after the http - https://gmail.google.com

Unfortunately IT copped on to this (after 2 years). Does anyone know a way around this? Or another email service that I might be able to use?

    Cheers

    try http(s)://72.14.205.83

    or

    http(s)://googlemail.l.google.com

Let us know how you get on...
May also be worthwhile trying to use a web proxy but they may be blocked as well.

If your employer blocks the web-based email category in Websense, this blocks most known addresses for gmail, but there's an open source product out there called gmail-light that you can use to access it. It effectively acts as a proxy. Google for it and you should find plenty of sites offering it.

    Yeah I use Gmail-lite

There's loads of versions if you google it
    like this

Only thing is you can't really be too sure if the owner of the site is intercepting the username&password

    I haven't had a problem yet anyway.

If you're afraid of someone harvesting your username and password with gmail lite, you could always set it up on your own webspace.

if gmail lite fails, use www.bugfm.com, a proxy disguised into a web page or www.the-cloak.com

Go to www.google.ie and look at the little "proxy me" box in the middle-left of the screen, that might help :p
