Neteller: Hard to please?

    Not strictly poker related:

Anyone else feel like they've been raked over the coals trying to set up a new account with Neteller? I've been trying to comply with their many requirements (including faxing them a copy of my bank statement with address included), now they've suspended my still inactive accout and they want me to provide a photocopy of the front and back of my credit card and the information page of my passport. This really pushes my limits with regard information I'm happy to send to a company I can't deal with face to face - my passport details AND my credit card details?

Anyone else get this sort of treatment? Looks like they'll can shove their account and I'll stick with waiting for cheques in the post.

yeah i had to the same. A copy of my passport and recent utility bill got my account set up but then to register my bank account i had to wait for them to deposit a small amount (less than 1E) into my acc then get that number (proving I own the account) and verify that number on the website.

Only new to online poker so I thought this was standard for neteller but i guess not

standard practice Paul, don't feel so victimised! :)

Once it's setup though, it works very well I have to say...

Its a bit of hassle but at the end of the day its all about protection your account/future account.I have found Netteller customer serves excellent if you have a problem.Stick with it Paul as a Netteler account is essential for anybody who plays on line a lot.

PS:I hope your passport photo is better than your PokerStars one...?

I setup my bank details and the "small" amount never came through. I have been trying to ring them as they said I needed to call them to sort it out but I can't get the number they gave me to work. Maybe I'm just an idiot but can someone tell me what number to dial from here to get them?

I think I had a shaved head and goatee back in the mists of time when I posed for my passport photo!

Hmmm, passport details and credit card details, not sure I can hack giving them that, hate being made jump through so many hoops, it was easier getting a temporary work visa for the US in late September 2001 than this is.

I'm sure you will be delighted to hear I was not asked for any proof of address, identity or credit cards and mine works just fine. I have made withdrawals straight to my bank account and it come through in a few days.

Hmmmn I never had any of these problems, never had to send them any documents and I have my neteller and bank account linked up. The only problem I ever had was face I had set up account in america and when I came back home it didn't work so rang them just to tell I am in ireland and that was that.

I think that's where alot of people get their problems. Many of the systems are designed for Americans, (they can validate US addresses etc far easier than End of de road, Ballydehob, Ireland). What annoyed me is that some sites let you join, let you deposit, and only make a deal out of validating you (for your security) when you actually want to transfer you winnings back onto your card. Boo.

I set it up ok no requirements needed that i couldnt punch in. i just cant work it:o

password is some mad figure like 1100423457523570 that you cant customise.
I try to transfer $ from one site to another site(ladbrokes) and ladbrokes asks me for some transfer code whatever that is i dont know. I dont know what this means im sure im missing something. Anyway the whole neteller thing confuses me so thats why i dont play sites i cant withdraw directly back into my credit card.

I never had these problems. Like 5starpool I just entered the info, sent in my bank details, received the small amount and within 3 days was up and running.

    persevere ionapaul!

This is the number I got from them. Couldn't get it to work. I'll try again this evening.

I was wondering if the small amount was say 1 cent does that mean your bank would totally ignore it. Just a thought. Would explain why some folks got it to work easy (i.e. an amount large enough to register on statement) and not for others (amount too small).
For example 1 cent = 0.00785989 Euro cent.

Well I am with AIB and amount was 53 cent I think

I had to send all that stuff off, passport, credit card, utiltiy bill etc when I applied for the debit card. It is a horrid process but is for your own security and once you have done it once you never have to again.

I think there is a problem with setting up links with BOI accounts something to do with the way thay quote the IBAN took me mumerous phone calls to get that sorted out.

I was wondering about this too but my value was someting like 18c (on my bank account) and this was the amount that I entered to verify too. It took 2 attempts though for them to lodge this as I had not sent my IBAN and swift code off to Neteller. I got an email off them and once I sent this info to them it deposited 3-4 days later no problem.

I've found this link handy in the past to determine IBANs (BOI & AIB only): http://www.skynet.ie/~martin/pages/iban.html

Yeah I didn't submit an IBAN when I gave my details. You would think they would insist on it but anyway once I can get them on the phone that link should help me have the IBAN ready.

Took me ages to get this all sorted, the problem for me was the Swift code for the bank, make sure you have that one too. Both your IBAN and Swift code can be got by just ringing the branch, (at least it can with Ulster bank)saves so much hassle.

P.S. That's the same number I use when getting on to them.

I had exactly the same problems as you describe, and it took several phone calls, (international at that), to resolve them.

Your IBAN and Swift numbers should both appear at the top of your bank statement, and the micro deposit takes around a week to come through, but now that it is set up, it is very useful.

Certainly not a great reflection on Neteller, in terms of "ease of use", but every time I called their customer services they were very helpful. Once I explained that I was calling from Ireland, they called me back to save me the cost of the call.

It is also reassuring to know that they take such care and attention in ensuring the safety of your money. The hassle is worth the peace of mind....

I would say they only ask undesirables for passports and bills etc...and leave the rest of us normal people alone.

Whatever the hassles, Neteller sure are making some dough, and no wonder with such a clear run:
