Dilemma

    Hi guys

I need some advice on this issue. Moved from a large company to a middle sized company this time last year. Reason for moving was that I was having huge grief from colleagues over my work ethic. I do project based work and I work very hard. Basically its up to me to move things as quick as possible to make more money for the company.

Anyways, as I said I got major grief from my colleagues 'your making us look bad' ect, I am quite ambitious and i know that I have to work hard to move upwards. In the last company there was a structure in place that allowed for promotions and I gave it my best shot. When it looked like things where starting to pay off I started to get a lot of hassle from two guys in particular, would unscrew my chair, alienate me on breaks, take batteries out of my keyboard, hide personal stuff. Anyways, it all came to a head and I left sharpish!

In my new (there a year) job, there isn't much room for promotion and I am working twice as hard as old job because of work load. I'm relatively happy there but its a bit of a stop gap till something else comes along.

Long story short, my old boss has asked me to return and work for him again, or at least go in and discuss options.

I don't know what to do, go back and fight it out or stay where I am and abide by teh rule of thumb to never go backwards....help?!?!?

PS I'm female if that is relevant

I would suggest go and have a chat with old boss-you have nothing to lose by seeing what he is willing to offer and you do not have to commit yourslf to going back..see what you want then and at least that way you can see if he plans on putting you back with the "jerks" if you return to him..

Best off luck and I hope after the chat you will see more clearly what is the best option for you..

Defo go and see him and see what he has to say.

I have a question, why did you put up with such childish behaviour in your previous job? Surely you knew they bullied you and could've taken appropriate action?

Admittedly, I didn't handle it so well. The way the office was laid out it was us, the team, in an open plan office and the managers in offices off the open plan. Everything that went on, went on, under cover and the atmsphere was just horrific as a result.

I did report it all and they denied it all, and made me look like a tit. One of them was also there nearly ten years so he couldn't be sacked, boss even told me that. Its funny because this guy was a cancer in the company, he grabbed every newbie before they even hit there desks and started to turn them against the boss. I told this to the boss too and he was glad I told him, a year on he is still there and as far as I can see the only thing that has changed is that he is now wise to the fact that I was right all along.

Its a get rid of him and I will come back situation and ex boss is v keen to talk to me. What can I say/do to make this work for me if you follow?

I would start my letting him tell you what he is offering..Then bring up the problems of the past and ask if these have been resolved and he probably will say yes so ask him how..see what he has to say for himself..ask if you will expected to work with those who were the cause of you leaving the last time..ask if it occurs again what action will be taken-ask will you be believed next time..ask why he is still employing the guy who is casuing the bother..
Remember you have nothing to lose so ask anything you want to make sure you know exactly what he is offering and offering to do to make sure you are going back into a perfect working environment..

If nothing has changed I dunno why you would go back. Work from home!
